(UPDATE 11:30 PM): Body Found Near Portland Town Park

PORTLAND — A man was found dead near Corell Creek off Route 20 across from the Portland Town Park on Saturday afternoon.

New York State Police said someone came across the man’s body and called 911 around 2 p.m. The man, believed to be in his 40s or 50s, was found near the creek, but not in the water, police told The Post-Journal on Saturday.

One person told police at the scene that the man reportedly lived near the water.

Police were expected to release more information regarding the man’s death late Saturday; none was available by press time.

Though the man’s identity wasn’t immediately known, police confirmed it was not that of 35-year-old Sean Carpenter, the Jamestown man missing since April 11. Several searches have taken place around the city since his disappearance.

“At this point we are advised that this finding is not related to our missing,” person case, Capt. Robert Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department said Saturday.
