1 min read

No one was injured when a boat caught fire Monday evening.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office said its marine division was alerted to the fire around 6:30 p.m. on Chautauqua Lake in the vicinity of Vukote in the town of Busti. Deputies helped the operator extinguish the fire, located in the engine compartment of the vessel.

"Deputies assisted in removing the occupants from the burning vessel onto the sheriff's vessel, including two young children," the department said in a news release. "The passengers were transported to shore. There were no injuries."

Members of the Lakewood and Bemus Point fire departments also responded to the lake.

Around 11:40 a.m. on Monday, the marine unit responded to a minor boat accident on the lake at Long Point State Park. It was learned that a pontoon boat had struck the pier, causing one person to be thrown from the vessel onto the pier.

The Bemus Point Fire Department assisted at the scene, the Sheriff's Office said.
