Video Showcase Contest Open To Area Students

BUFFALO — As technology becomes more embedded in our daily lives, from smart homes to smart cities to autonomous cars to robotics, humankind’s relationship with machines is transforming at a robust pace. InfoTech WNY has partnered with AT&T and Full Circle Studios to challenge Western New York high school students in a video competition designed to provide a unique way for them to communicate how they predict the relationship between humans and machines will evolve in the future. The challenge, Machine Vs. Mankind, strives to engage high schoolers to take a close look at how technology is changing their world and encourage them to think how their futures will be structured vastly differently than today with the growing dependencies of technology in our everyday lives.

All participating students are encouraged to use technology and creativity in their video production, including mobile devices, drones, animation and special effects, to make it as impactful as possible. Participants must be current high school students in Western New York (Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming Counties). All videos must be original work by the applicants including all visual and audio materials including music, photographs and artworks.

Entries will be accepted from both individuals and teams, with winners receiving cash prizes.

The grand prize winner in the team category will be awarded $500, with second- and third-place winners receiving $250 and $100, respectively. Grand prize for the individual category is $200, with second place receiving $100 and third place receiving $50. Video submissions, which are not to exceed 90 seconds and must be in mp4 format, will be accepted beginning immediately through Monday at 5 p.m. at infotechwny.com or emailed to infotechvideosubmissions@gmail.com. The winners will be announced May 3 at the InfoTech WNY BETAs award show.

In addition to the cash prizes, the winning films will be premiered in front of an audience of more than 600 prestigious members of the region’s technology and invocation community at InfoTech WNY’s 2018 BETAs Show at Riverworks on May 3. The winning films will also be featured on InfoTech WNY’s website, on YouTube, Vimeo or other video-sharing sites.

“We are very fortunate to have both Full Circle Studios & AT&T partner with us in bringing this worthwhile event to our 17th Annual Buffalo Emerging Technology Awards Showcase (BETAS) to be held May 3,” said Patrick Finucane, chair, InfoTech WNY. “Myself and the entire board at InfoTech WNY look forward to seeing the creativity of our area high school students as they put their stamp on this video challenge.”

AT&T and Full Circle Studios partnership on this unique and innovative video challenge is a creative way to expose local students to the skills and technology necessary to create film, new media and multimedia projects. As video content continues to become more and more popular across all spectrums of business, communications, entertainment and education, the skill of video making and content development has become more and more in demand.
