Challenge your putting skills and support a worthwhile cause by signing up to join in the fun at the Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville's "PolioPlus Challenge" Charity Miniature Golf Tournament. It will be held on Saturday, Aug. 19, starting at 9 a.m., at Webb's Miniature Golf, 115 West Lake Road, Rt. 394, Mayville. Foursome teams (teams of four players) of all ages are needed. All net proceeds will be donated to the PolioPlus Fund to aid in efforts to eliminate the crippling disease of polio in the world.
Bring your friends, family members, neighbors and others, as well as your smiles, for a morning of 18 holes of hilarious miniature golf. Make a challenge with other foursomes of your co-workers and colleagues as to which group will have the best score! Fun hats and costumes are optional. Prizes will be awarded to the winning and runner-up teams of each of the three categories of all men, all women and mixed (men and women or adults and children). Available for purchase will be light refreshments and also chances to win an array of items. Also, there will be an educational display about Rotary's efforts with helping to end the spread of polio.
Advance registration of foursome teams is strongly encouraged, and should be made as soon as possible. The fee is $50 per each team of four players. To register teams, determine a name for each team and contact Jan Berkhouse at berkhous@fairpoint.net or 397-8801.
Sponsors for each of the 18 holes, which are going fast, are currently being secured. The hole sponsorship fee is $50. This year there have been only six new cases of the crippling disease of polio, and those have been in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria. Given our highly mobile population in the world, polio could return to the United States. Rotary International is a major leader in the unified campaign to vaccinate children against the disease. A single dose of the polio vaccine costs 60 cents.
