BEMUS POINT – The Thule Lodge met recently to honor members with more than 20 years of membership.
The Thule Lodge was organized 109 years ago in the Jamestown/Bemus Point area to help the Swedish immigrants when they settled in the United States. Many of the immigrants settled in the Jamestown area, and were in employed in the many furniture factories of the area. The Thule Lodge now exists to preserve the Swedish culture and heritage through events and activities. The lodge is located at 4123 Pancake Hill Road.
At a recent meeting of the lodge, Tom Eckberg, chairman, welcomed all to the gathering. Lynne Meyers, secretary. gave the roll call of officers and read the minutes of the previous meeting. Loretta Smith, financial secretary, read the report of the recent financial activity of the lodge.
Susanna Ecklof was initiated as a new member and will be taking over as the Children’s Dance Club supervisor. Donna Johnson, longtime dance leader, will continue at the dance leader for the adults. The dance club is in its 75th year, and to honor this special year, there will be a special recognition in the fall.
The meeting was devoted to honoring those Thule Lodge members having more than 20 years of membership. Those honored ranged in membership from 20 years to 60 years, and were presented a certificate of recognition and a certificate to a lodge dinner. Scott Axelson read an article written by Ulf Martensson, who was present at the recent Scandinavian Folk Festival in July.
Following the recognition, cake and ice cream were served to all present.
The next gathering of the Thule Lodge will be on Thursday, Aug. 25, at 6 p.m. The meeting is the annual corn and hot dog roast. All members are welcome to attend. New members are welcome to join.
