ALSTAR EMS Uses Narcan 11 Times In July

ALSTAR EMS, the leading provider of pre-hospital care in Southwestern New York, administered Narcan during the month of July a total of 11 times.

Narcan, a drug used to counteract the effects of a heroin overdose, has become essential in Chautauqua County, where the prevalence of heroin has continued to grow. Along with administering the drug to four victims in the south county and seven victims in the north county, Narcan administrations completed by ALSTAR EMS year to date are a total of 59.

In 2014, year to date administrations were 47. According to Ron Hasson, EMS resources manager, a total of 82 administrations were done in 2014 by ALSTAR EMS alone.
