LINKS Charity Exceeds Three-Year $300,000 Pledge To WCA Hospital

Now in its 24th year, LINKS Charity has completed and surpassed their three-year pledge of $300,000 toward the purchase of 3-D tomosynthesis technology at WCA Hospital. This was the third year of LINKS Charity’s three-year, $306,000 pledge, which now has raised a total of $1.18 million toward enhancing local cancer care efforts. Links Charity fundraisers include an LPGA golf pro-am golf scramble and banquet and a LINKS Pink Walk. These efforts were spearheaded by lead-sponsor Truck-Lite and major sponsors Cummins Engine, United Refining Company, The Bilicki Law Firm and Alstar EMS, along with associate sponsors Veracity Benefits and Jamestown Savings Bank and many other community volunteers.

With the presentation of $106,000 in the final installment of LINKS Charity’s three-year pledge of $300,000, LINKS Charity exceeded their expectations by $6,000. This is all due to the efforts of the community members, sponsors and volunteers working with LINKS for the past 23 years.

“We believed that the 3-D tomosynthesis was the logical piece of the puzzle, as it works in conjunction with the digital mammography suite at WCA,” said Brad Van Riper, senior vice president for Truck-Lite and executive director for LINKS Charity. “We are excited that the community supported this effort to more effectively diagnose breast cancer.”

“Once again, LINKS Charity is proving its extraordinary commitment to local cancer care,” said Betsy T. Wright, WCA Hospital president and chief executive officer. “We are so thankful that through the hard work and generosity of many that the Center for Imaging and Medical Arts at WCA will stay on the cutting edge of technology and our community will greatly benefit for many years to come.”

LINKS Charity will begin 2015 with several events, including the 24th annual LINKS LPGA Golf Pro-Am and “LINKing Together” banquet, auction and LINKS Charity Golf Scramble on July 27 and 28 at Moon Brook Country Club, and finishing with the 5th annual LINKS Pink Walk on Oct. 3 at the Chautauqua Mall.

LINKS Charity, established in 1991, was cofounded by Mary Blair and Sondra Anderson. Their commitment and passion along with many benevolent volunteers, including Allen Short, executive director for the organization’s first 19 years, has been remarkable. LINKS Charity continues in its mission to link the community, business and industry together to enhance local cancer care at WCA Hospital. LINKS Charity is spearheaded by lead-sponsor Truck-Lite and major sponsors Cummins Engine, United Refining Company, The Bilicki Law Firm and Alstar EMS, along with associate sponsors Veracity Benefits and Jamestown Savings Bank.

WCA Hospital’s Cancer Care program, the only program in the region recognized for cancer care excellence by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, is staffed by a team of physicians and health care professionals. The nationally recognized program provides a wide range of cancer care services from routine screenings to the diagnosis and treatment of patients diagnosed with cancer. The comprehensive cancer care team is dedicated to preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer for residents in the Chautauqua County and surrounding region.
