Tree Planting Talk Is Thursday
BEMUS POINT -- On Thursday, from 6-7 p.m. at the Bemus Point Library, Dave Spann, district field manager for the Chautauqua County Soil and Water District, will give a talk about tree planting and site selection. The presentation will include what and where to plant trees and soil conditions. He will also discuss disease concepts and what to do. The first 25 people to attend the event will take home a balsam fir transplant suitable for planting.
Women's Club
To Meet Friday
The West Side Women's Club will meet at 1 p.m. Friday at Bethel Lutheran Church. The speaker will be Kim Carlson, from A Fresh Start (created in memory of her son, Alex Foulk). A Fresh Start involves helping individuals recovering from addiction by providing family houses called Oxford Houses. The individuals rent and live in these homes which are self-run and self-supported, in a standardized, democratically run operation. Members have planned to make a monetary donation to A Fresh Start at this meeting.
JPS To Hold
Registration
Jamestown Public Schools will hold a kindergarten registration for Fall 2018 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday in the district administration offices, 197 Martin Road. The registration is only for students who are new to the Jamestown Public Schools. The registration is not for students who are currently enrolled in universal pre-kindergarten programs at any Jamestown Public School UPK site or at other UPK sites, including Head Start at Bush Elementary School, Holy Family, A Children's Place, YMCA, or YWCA. For those students new to the district, any child who resides in the city of Jamestown and who will be 5 on or before Dec. 1, 2018, is eligible to attend kindergarten in the district this fall. Contact the district's District Central Registration Office at 483-4344 with any questions, or to schedule an appointment to register a child for kindergarten.
Workforce Board To Meet May 2
A meeting of the Workforce Investment/Development Board will be held Wednesday, May 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Moon Brook Country Club on North Main Street Extension in Jamestown. The meeting is open to the public. Please RSVP to Jody Cheney at jcheney@chautauqua works.com or 487-5171.
Outdoor Club
To Hike Sunday
The Allegheny Outdoor Club will hike new trails at Allegany State Park on Sunday. The hike will visit new wildlife viewing areas in the wetlands next to Red House Reservoir. Weavers Guild To Meet Saturday
WESTFIELD -- The Chautauqua County Weavers Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the YWCA in Westfield. The program will be a discussion about all the different kinds of looms weavers use. Several different looms including table, rigid heddle, inkle and tapestry looms, will be on display. Anyone interested in weaving or the guild is welcome to attend.
