HAMBURG — Trey Drake surpassed the 1,000-point career mark, but Jamestown boys basketball team didn’t have quite enough firepower to knock off Bishop Timon in the CenterCourt Classic at Hamburg High School on Saturday.

Jaiden Harrison led four players in double figures with 32 points as the Tigers held off the Red Raiders 85-75.

Jamestown (13-3) trailed Bishop Timon 45-42 at halftime, but the latter began the third quarter on fire and opened up a double-figure lead. Although the Red Raiders closed the gap to five points in the final period, they couldn’t get any closer.

“They’re very good, very talented and they just have the ability to score in bunches,” Jamestown coach Ben Drake said. “It’s not just one guy. They have three guys who average between 18 and 24 points per game, which is a lot for a high school basketball team. A lot of teams don’t average 60 points, let alone three guys.”

Joining Harrison in double figures were Malachi Parker with 21, Nakyhi Harris with 18 and Jacob Humphrey with 12.

Trey Drake led the Red Raiders with 22 points, including a drive to the basket with 4:28 remaining in the third quarter that allowed him to reach the 1,000-point barrier. He is the 11th Jamestown boys player in school history to reach that milestone.

“It’s always special when we have one of our players score 1,000 points,” Coach Drake said of his son. “It certainly makes it more special being a dad at the same time, knowing what goes into that and how hard he’s worked to achieve that goal.”

Four other Red Raiders reached double figures. Greg Brumagin had 15 points, including shooting 3 of 5 from the arc; Jaydian Johnson added 12; and Sean Paige and Bishop Butts both had 11.

“I can’t remember the last time that that’s happened,” Coach Drake said. “That’s good to see that kind of balance and production from a lot of different guys.”

NOTES: Trey Drake and Butts each grabbed 10 rebounds; Paige added six assists and five boards; and Johnson collected five assists. … Jamestown is back in action tonight when it entertains Lancaster in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 game. Varsity tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
