Sherman Impresses In Season Debut

FORESTVILLE — Paige Gratto scored 27 points, including five 3-pointers, to send defending New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D finalist Sherman to a 76-15 nonleague victory over Forestville in its girls basketball season opener Wednesday.

Gratto also had five steals and four assists while Hayden Fisher chipped in 21 points and four assists. Tayden Persons and Leighanne Swan each grabbed seven rebounds for the Wildcats.

Morgan Becker led the Hornets with 6 points and six rebounds.

BLACK KNIGHTS PREVAIL

NORTH COLLINS — Five different Silver Creek girls scored during a 13-5 fourth quarter as the Black Knights put away North Collins in a 37-23 nonleague victory.

Kay Hutchison led Silver Creek with 13 points and seven steals to go along with three assists while Lucille Jimerson and Andrea Martinez each grabbed six rebounds.

Autumn Awald led the Eagles with 11 points.

CLYMER WINS OPENER

CLYMER — Alexys Neckers scored 18 points to go along with six steals, four rebounds and four assists to lead Clymer to a season-opening 38-18 nonleague victory over Ellicottville on Tuesday.

Ava Nyweide added 7 points and seven rebounds while Abby White grabbed nine rebounds for the Pirates (1-0), who led 8-4 after the first quarter before shutting out the Eagles (0-1) 10-0 in the second quarter.

Allison Rowland had eight rebounds and four steals for Ellicottville.
