Ebersole Continues Hot Start To Season

Follows Up 43-Point Day With 32 In Win

NORTH COLLINS — Derek Ebersole’s start to the season has been as good as anybody’s around.

The North Collins junior followed up a 43-point performance at Portville on Saturday with another 32 points Monday night as the Eagles beat nonleague Gowanda 65-58 in nonleague boys basketball action.

“He just plays hard from start to finish. He doesn’t let up. He has a motor that just won’t quit,” North Collins head coach Jan Warren said. “I think he’s got more confidence than he’s had in other years.”

Ebersole, who hit six 3-pointers in Saturday’s performance, made another three 3-pointers Monday and added two rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Matt Sweet added 10 points, 14 rebounds and six assists; Daniel Downes had 10 points, 12 rebounds and a blocked shot; and Jimmy Pagan had 9 points and six rebounds for North Collins (2-1).

“It was a physical game,” Warren said, “but we hung tough.”

Quentin Centner had 21 points, John Ondus had 18 and Blake Herman had 10 points for the Panthers (1-2).

PANAMA — Carter Brink had 26 points, eight steals and five assists to lead Panama past Pine Valley 86-47 in nonleague play.

Gabe Roth had 16 points and six steals; Bryce Hinsdale had 14 points and seven steals; Tate Catanese had 12 points; and Jordan Mescall had 10 points for Panama (1-0).

“Our defense turned into offense,” Panama head coach Ed Nelson said. “We got into transition. Good things happen when we run.”

Jon Sheldon led Pine Valley (1-1) with 18 points and Nick Seabolt had 11.

CORNELL HITS WINNER

MAYVILLE — Grant Cornell hit a tie-breaking 3-pointer in the final minute as Franklinville beat Chautauqua Lake 44-41 in nonleague play.

The Thunderbirds had a chance to tie the game in the final 15 seconds, but were unable to attempt a shot.

Cornell led the Panthers (1-2) with 16 points to go along with six rebounds. Beau Bielecki had 10 points; Hayden Trietley grabbed 12 rebounds; and Bretton Blecha had 11 rebounds.

Alex Brown led the Thunderbirds (0-2) with 12 points while Nick Jacobson and Logan Tarr each had 9.

BEMUS POINT — Colin McPherson scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Maple Grove past Cassadaga Valley 57-32 in nonleague action.

Brendon Weatherup added 10 points while Jonah Foley had 8 points and five steals for the Red Dragons (1-0), who led 26-12 at halftime.

Ace Pierce led the Cougars (1-1) with 17 points.
