Frosh Helps Falconer Top Jamestown In 5 Games

Hannah Melquist is only a freshman, but she played like a senior Wednesday, helping Falconer to a 26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 17-25, 15-7 victory over Jamestown in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West volleyball match at McElrath Gymnasium.

Melquist collected eight kills, 25 assists, 15 digs and six aces to help the Golden Falcons improve to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the division. Also helping the winning cause were Dani Krezner with 10 kills, one block, 31 digs and four aces; Mylie Zaranek with six kills, one block and one ace; and Laura Reichenbach with five kills, one block and an ace.

For the Red Raiders (2-5, 2-4), Kylie O’Brien had a big match with 12 aces, 20 kills, 13 blocks and 22 digs; Avery Salvaggio added 30 assists and 14 digs; Aubrey Reynolds chipped in 15 digs and seven kills; and Rylan Coombs had 12 digs and seven kills.

Jamestown won the junior varsity match.

GOWANDA — After falling behind 2-1, Gowanda won the final two games en route to a 25-22, 20-25, 24-26, 25-20, 15-7 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus East Division volleyball victory over Ellicottville on Wednesday.

The Panthers improved to 5-1 overall and in the league with the win.

Allison Rowland had 14 kills, 13 digs and two aces; Natalee Leiper had eight kills, nine digs and four aces; and Dalayla Alexander had 29 digs and an ace for the Eagles (3-4, 3-3). Ande Northrup chipped in 19 assists.

SILVER CREEK PREVAILS

SILVER CREEK — Gianna Grabias had seven kills and 11 assists to lead Silver Creek past Cattaraugus-Little Valley 25-22, 25-18, 26-24 in the East Division.

Tory Cook had six kills and 11 assists while Ryleigh Lawton chipped in four kills and two aces for the Black Knights (3-6, 2-4).

The Timberwolves fell to 0-6 overall and in the league.

ADAMS SHINES FOR CARDS

NORTH COLLINS — Eve Adams had 27 kills, 10 digs and five aces to lead Randolph past North Collins 25-6, 25-11, 25-16 in East Division play.

Kameron Luce had 23 assists, Avery Morrison had seven digs and McKenzie Crosson had four aces for the Cardinals (7-1, 6-0).

Sophia Vanstrom had three kills and Cate Ayers had two assists for the Eagles (4-3, 4-2).

PINE VALLEY SWEEPS

SALAMANCA — Pine Valley swept Salamanca 25-23, 25-9, 25-13 in East Division action.

The Panthers improved to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the league.

Faith Papke had seven aces and five assists for the Warriors (1-6, 1-5).
