Fourth Annual Cassadaga Kids Triathlon Held Last Month

CASSADAGA — On Aug. 13, the fourth annual Cassadaga Kids Triathlon was held at Cassadaga Beach where 69 children, ages 4-14, raced their hearts out.
The race consists of a 100-meter swim, 3.1-mile bike and a 1-mile run. Overall winners are broken down into two age categories: 8 and under and 9-14. Age groups are then broken down into two-year age groups.
New this year, after the fact, one of our racers inspired an award due to an exemplary act of Kindness and Compassion. The inaugural Parker Morrison Sportsmanship Award was created when Parker Morrison of Randolph stopped his race to help a young girl that had fallen off her bicycle and suffered minor injuries, not giving a thought to his own finish time and place in the race.
“Every child that came out to race was a winner on Saturday — they showed up — they tried a new sport, many for the very first time, and they gave it their all,” said Mark and Tonia Wilson of Wilson Endurance Sports. “The smiles as they cross the finish line are what it’s all about.”

Also, $200 will be donated to the village of Cassadaga Bathhouse project at the beach. The restrooms have served thousands children and families for many, many years and Wilson Endurance Sports is donating to the project of updating them.

With those sponsors support, the participants received race T-shirts, finisher medals, awards and a pancake and sausage breakfast.
