Athletes To Be Honored At Picnic

The Board of Directors of the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame announced nine outstanding county athletes will be honored at its annual summer picnic Aug. 8 at the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club for achieving All-New York State or All-American status in 2022.

First to be recognized will be Darien Swanson of Westfield Central School, who is a New York State Class D First Team Basketball Player. Swanson will also receive the Stan Marshaus Legacy Award for being the Most Outstanding Male High School Golfer in Chautauqua County.

Trenton Shutters and Michael Butterfield, both of Southwestern Central, will be honored for being USA Track & Field Youth Indoor Nationals All-Americans. Shutters ran the 800 meters and Butterfield ran the 200 meters.

Devin Austin, of Falconer Central, will receive accolades for winning the Small Schools high jump competition at the New York State Track & Field Indoor Championships.

Haleigh Dellow of Westfield Central will be honored for achieving New York State First Team status for Class D softball.

Jamestown Community College swimmers Kaylee Constantino and Tia Moppert will be recognized for achieving NJCAA All-American status. Constantino swam the 50-yard breaststroke and Moppert competed in the 200-yard individual medley.

Finally, two adult swimmers will receive accolades for outstanding performances at the New York State Senior Empire State Games. Karen Williams was a gold medalist in the 60-64 age group while Judy Young won six gold medals in the 95-99 age group.
