Swanson Shoots 82, Corey 96 At State Golf Tourneys
A pair of Chautauqua County student/athletes competed in the first round at their respective New York State Public High School Athletic Association Golf Championship on Sunday.
Senior Darien Swanson of Westfield shot a 10-over 82 and finds himself in a four-way tie for 57th place in a field of 99 in the boys tournament at Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira.
Representing the Section VI team, Swanson shot a 4-over 40 on the front 9 and a 6-over 42 on the back 9. In all, he recorded one birdie, six bogeys, one double bogey and a triple bogey on the 6,861-yard layout.
Senior Thomas Finn of Section VIII leads the field after firing a 6-under 66, which gives him a three-shot lead over senior CJ Merritt of Section VIII and sophomore Oliver Watson of Section IX.
Swanson will tee off for today’s second round at 9:18 a.m.
Meanwhile, senior Josephine Corey of Southwestern shot a 24-over 96, which places her in a tie for 64th place at McGregor Links Country Club in Wilton
Kennedy Swedick leads the field with an even-par 72, one shot in front of Nina Choe and two in front of Sofia Nogalo.
