Sandhills CC Finishes Off Dominant Week

CHAUTAUQUA — Sandhills Community College finished what they started at the NJCAA Division III Golf Championship on the Lake Course at Chautauqua Golf Club.

In dominating fashion.

Led by medalist Andreas Huber, the Pinehurst, North Carolina school shot a four-day total 1,173, which tied for the second lowest team score in tournament history, tying Monroe CC’s mark set in 2009.

Huber shot a final-round 72 for a four-day total of 289, five shots in front of teammate Alex Martin and seven shots in front of teammate Austin Wood. All told, Sandhills CC had five players earn All-American honors as Huber, Martin and Wood were joined by Carson Witherspoon and Adam Hathaway, who placed sixth and ninth respectively.

Other golfers to earn All-American honors were Austin Quillian of Georgia Military College; Troy Loughry of Butler County CC; Lurner Benton of Georgia Military College, Damian Guerrero of the College of DuPage, Leo Camilloni and Sean Barrett of Niagara County CC, Nick Puleo of the College of DuPage, Grant Inniger and Hunter Burnside of Minnesota State Tech, Eric Joyce of Mohawk Valley CC and Zac Golibersuch of Nigara County CC.

After Sandhills CC, following are the remaining team results: Georgia Military College, 1,262; College of DuPage 1,267; Niagara County CC, 1,269; Minnesota State Tech, 1,317; Butler County CC, 1,340; Nassau CC, 1,341; County College of Morris, 1,375; Jefferson CC, 1,396; and Jamestown CC, 1,477.

For the host Jayhawks, Traden Gray finished tied for 31st with a 339; Josh Brown was 53rd with a 370; Noah Adams was 59th with a 380; and Kyle Smallback was 61st with a 388. On Friday, Brown led Jamestown CC with an 85, Gray had an 86, Adams shot a 99 and Smallback had a 104.

In the women’s championship, Scotty Foley and Ava Ray finished 1-2 with a 319 and a 337 total respectively. Julia Bazata of Oxford was third with a 356, Rory Smith of Adirondack CC was fourth with a 366, and McCarthy Lang and Kennedy Lang of Niagara County CC were fifth and sixth with a 369 and 372 respectively.

Foley and Ray both shot an 80 to share medalist honors for the final round.
