Kota Leads Gowanda To Class C Title Game

PORTVILLE — Addison Kota hit a two-run home run and threw a complete-game two-hitter to lead No. 3 Gowanda past No. 2 Portville 5-3 in Section VI Class C semifinal action Wednesday.

Gowanda will now take on No. 1 Falconer in the championship game Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Allegany-Limestone High School after the Golden Falcons shut out No. 4 Randolph 2-0 in Wednesday’s other semifinal.

In Portville, Kota gave her team a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Portville answered with a run in the bottom of the first, but Gowanda took a 5-1 lead with a three-run third inning.

Kota finished 2 for 4; Lily Bobseine was 2 for 3 with two RBIs; Holland Browning singled, scored a run and drove in a run; Cameron Nagel doubled and scored a run; and Wassy Stevens singled, stole a base and scored a run.

Kota struck out five and walked two in the circle.

For Portville, Mallory Welty allowed seven hits, struck out two and walked three. Sam Steadman singled and scored a run; Peyton Young singled; and Teagan Kosinski stole two bases and scored two runs.

ELLICOTTVILLE ADVANCES TO D FINAL

NORTH COLLINS — No. 3 Ellicottville held off No. 2 North Collins 4-3 on Wednesday to advance to the Section VI Class D finals.

The Eagles were led by Allison Rowland with two RBIs, a triple and a run scored; Keelin Finn also tripled and scored; Jocelyn Wyatt hit a double and RBI; Emilee Ruiz doubled and scored; and Jaida Mendell scored a run.

In the circle, Ande Northrup pitched all seven innings giving up 11 hits, three earned runs and one walk in the win.

The North Collins effort was led by Payge Murray going 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored; Novalee Schlenker went 2 for 4 with an RBI; Jaylee Jimmerson went 2 for 4 with a run scored; Mckenna Rice went 2 for 4 with a double; and Hailey Jasinski scored a run.

In the circle, Cate Ayers gave up four earned runs on seven hits, five walks and struck out one. Also defensively, North Collins threw out both Rowland and Finn trying to score inside-the-park home runs that were ruled triples.

Ellicottville will play No. 1 Westfield in the finals Tuesday at Allegany-Limestone High School.
