Fredonia Coasts Past Trojans On Senior Night

FREDONIA — The Fredonia Hillbillies softball team was looking for a big win on its Senior Night on Tuesday.

Well a big win is what Fredonia found, defeating Southwestern 19-2 in five innings of Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West action.

“All five seniors have played a pivotal role this year,” stated Fredonia head coach Jesse Beers. “We’re really fortunate to have five outstanding seniors.”

Fredonia’s five seniors are Erin Schrantz, Lila Cameron, Hallie Laurito, Nevaeh Zadzilka and Kyleigh Waterman.

On the special night, Fredonia’s offense exploded with Gaby Matos went 3 for 3 with a double and a triple; Jaeyln Davis hit a solo home run; Waterman tripled; Cameron went 3 for 4; Laurito went 2 for 3; Jordan Lucas went 2 for 5; and Jenna Truby went 2 for 3.

Lucas was superb in her three innings in the circle, giving up no hits, walking none and striking out seven. Ashlynn Delcamp finished the game giving up the two Southwestern runs and hits, but struck out three.

Southwestern had two hits, with one each from Brynne Conley and Mckenna Bogdanowicz. Allie Durnell pitched the first three innings for the Trojans and was the losing pitcher.

Today the Hillbillies host Olean in a big match for a chance to tie in first place of Division 1 West.

WHITAKER HITS FOR CYCLE

BROCTON — Chyanne Whitaker hit for the cycle as the Brocton Bulldogs (2-7, 2-4) earned a 19-9 win over Forestville (0-6, 0-6) in Division 1 East action on Tuesday.

Whitaker had five hits, homering in the second, tripling in the third, singling in the fourth and fifth and then the doubling in the sixth inning. The Bulldogs pulled away in the second with the Whitaker homer, then Angeline Rexford hit a three-run single and Joie Wisecarver hit in another run. Brocton added another five in the sixth on singles from Rexford and Wisecarver, and Whitaker and Makayla Brisley drove home runs on doubles.

Forestville’s big inning was the sixth, Madison Sliwinski, Lauryn Pierce and Callie Grupa had RBIs in the inning. Jade Work, Jenna Emerson, Pierce, Sliwinski and Madison Christian each had multiple hits for Forestville

Madison Sears was the winning pitcher for Brocton with six strikeouts and Megan Gruber struck out two while taking the loss for Forestville.

WOLVERINES CLAW MARAUDERS

DUNKIRK — Westfield (12-1, 9-1 CCAA D2 West) defeated Dunkirk 11-0 in nonleague action on Tuesday.

Westfield’s Haleigh Dellow got things started with a home run on second pitch of the game and then she later hit a two-run double; Eva Gnadzinski hit two-run homer — the first of her career — and a single; Tanleigh Bestine hit two singles and a triple; Drew Ernewine and Cassidy Phillips both tripled; Sydney Hotchkiss doubled and Madyson Burgess hit a double and a single.

Dellow was dominant again in the circle, pitching all seven innings and giving up just four hits while striking out 14.

Jamaladie Pacheco pitched all seven innings for Dunkirk (4-8, 4-6 CCAA D1 West) and struck out five batters. Dunkirk’s four hits were from Jamaladie, Emily Pacheco, Aaliyah Morales and Angelina Piede.

HUSKIES THUMP RED RAIDERS

Olean defeated Jamestown 16-2 in five innings of Division 1 West action on Tuesday at the Martin Road Athletic Complex.

Olean (9-5, 8-0) was led by Emma Edwards who hit a double and two singles, and scored four runs. The Huskies’ winning pitcher was Kiley Anastasia.

Jamestown (2-9, 2-7) scored both of its runs in the fourth inning, Kylie O’Brien hit one of her two singles that scored both Raegan Powers and Alyson Canfield. Lindsey Spitz was the losing pitcher for the Red Raiders.

T’BIRDS DOWN WOLVES

CLYMER — Chautauqua Lake defeated Clymer/Sherman 6-2 in Division 2 West action.

Cayzlee Johnson led the Thunderbirds from both the circle and the plate, pitching for the win with eight strikeouts and going 3 for 4 from the plate. Jenna Waters and Olivia Herrington added two hits apiece.

The Wolves were led by Kate Lindsey with two hits and Sam Henning pitched a complete game with six strikeouts.

MONDAY

HOVEY LIFTS PANAMA

SINCLAIRVILLE — Corinne Hovey went 3 for 3 to lead Panama to a 12-8 Division 2 West victory over Cassadaga Valley on Monday.

Sarah Harvey, Kylie Range and Peyton Range were all 2 for 3 for the Panthers (2-8, 2-7). Emma Cooper threw five innings and struck out six before Jessica Lyon struck out four in the final two innings.

Peyton Meder was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Emiley Anderson tripled for the Cougars (0-8, 0-8). Andrea Johnson struck out four in the circle.
