Maryland Halts Rebels’ Win Streak

ODENTON, Md. — All good things must come to an end.

The Jamestown Rebels 10-game winning streak was snapped following a 2-0 loss to the Maryland Black Bears on Friday afternoon in a North American Hockey League game.

The Black Bears dominated the Rebels, outshooting them 37-15 as Maryland goalie Michael Morelli turned aside every shot. Nolan Suggs was the Rebels best player, keeping Jamestown in the game with his stellar play, making 35 saves between the pipes.

Suggs was finally beaten just past the halfway point of the second period, when Brad McNeil scored his 10th of the season with assists from Aden Bruich and Miles Gunty. Maryland’s Matthew Davies added an insurance goal in the third with assists from Ryan Bottrill and Jack Blanchett. The Rebels managed just three shots in the final period.

PLAYOFF PICTURE

The Rebels were in control their own destiny for a home playoff series next weekend if they had won on Friday, but coupled with their loss and a Johnstown overtime victory yesterday, their hopes for a home playoff series is in the hands of Danbury today.

Danbury scored the first two goals of Friday’s game and led most of the way, until Holt Oliphant tied things up in the third period on the power play. Oliphant later completed the comeback in overtime, scoring his 18th of the season, unassisted.

Currently, the Rebels sit at 73 points in the standings and Johnstown has 72, but Jamestown will need last-place Danbury to get the win for a home playoff series next week at Northwest Arena.
