3 Red Raiders Earn All-State Recognition From NYSSWA

SYRACUSE — The Jamestown boys basketball team reached the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA Final Four more than a month ago, but the honors keep pouring in for the program.

Junior Trey Drake and seniors Jaylen Butera and Jaral Farmer are among 29 Class AA and Class A players from Western New York who have been honored as all-state selections by the New York State Sportswriters Association. The announcement was made Wednesday.

Drake was named to the 13th Team in Class AA, Butera the 18th Team and Farmer was an Honorable Mention selection.

A 6-foot-3 guard, Drake averaged 14.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and shot 38.5% from the arc and 66% from the foul line; Butera, a 6-foot-2 forward, averaged 13.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 1.0 blocks, and shot 51.7% from the floor, including 38.5% from the arc, and 65% from the foul line; and Farmer a 6-foot-7 forward, averaged 11.6 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks, and shot 49% from the field. All three were also members of The Post-Journal/OBSERVER All-Star Teams.

Other Class AA all-state choices from WNY are senior Seth Joba, Orchard Park, Second Team; senior Dominic McKenzie, Niagara Falls, 11th Team; senior Joe Harrington, Lancaster, 15th Team; and senior Alex Crescent, Orchard Park, Honorable Mention.

In Class A, senior Declan Ryan of Canisius was named the New York State Player of the Year. Other honorees in Class A are senior Max Schneider, Williamsville South, First Team; junior Shane Cercone, Canisius, Third Team; senior Justin Glover, St. Joe’s, Fifth Team; junior Nick Moore, Amherst, Sixth Team; senior Trey Kleitz, Iroquois, Seventh Team; senior Teddy Duffie, Amherst, Eighth Team; junior Xander Fletcher, Niagara Wheatfield, Ninth Team; senior Solomon Jackson, St. Joe’s, 10th Team; senior TJ Robinson, Niagara Wheatfield and senior Nate Parker, CSAT, both 12th Team; senior TJ Jacobs, Hutch-Tech, 14th Team; sophomore Adam Chiacchia, Hamburg, 15th Team; senior Jasiah Jarocinski, Pioneer, 18th Team; junior Dorian Facen, Williamsville East, Honorable Mention; senior Brendan Reid, St. Francis, Honorable Mention; and senior Joshua Schumaker, International Prep, Honorable Mention.
