Hicks Named Region 3 Player Of The Year
Three Jamestown Community College women’s basketball players and their coach were recognized with postseason honors this past weekend during the Region 3 tournament.
Freshman Hannah Hicks, a freshman forward from Cleveland, was named the Region 3 Player of the Year after posting 14.3 points, 15.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while blocking 78 shots this season for the Jayhawks.
Hicks scored a season-high 24 points in a 93-59 victory over Butler County CC on Dec. 1 and grabbed a season-high 30 rebounds in that same game. Hicks reached 20 rebounds in five game this season and eclipsed the 20-point threshold in five.
Freshman Kymi Nance, a 5-foot-5 guard from Dunkirk, was also named to the Region 3 First Team after scoring 13.4 points, grabbing 5.2 rebounds and handing out 2.2 assists per game.
Nance scored a season-high 26 points in a 68-63 win over Lakeland CC on Dec. 18. She grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds on two separate occasions; first against Jefferson CC on Dec. 11 and again versus Monroe CC on Feb. 9.
Freshman D’Auzhanay Harden, a 5-foot-6 guard from Erie, Pennsylvania, was named to the Region 3 Second Team after scoring 12.3 points, grabbing 5.8 rebounds and handing out 4.4 assists per game.
Harden scored a season-high 26 points in an 85-42 win over Genesee CC on Dec. 3 and handed out a season-high nine assists against Butler County CC on Dec. 1. She also grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds in a loss to West Virginia University Potomac State College on Dec. 5.
Dave Turnbull was named the Region 3 Coach of the Year in his first season on the bench for the Jayhawks. The team is currently 13-14 overall and finished 3-3 in Region 3 Division II play. Jamestown CC took the No. 2 seed into the region tournament before falling to Niagara County CC in the title game. Both teams will play in the NJCAA District East A & B Tournament this weekend at Niagara County CC.

Freshman Gonzalo Luque, a 6-foot-8 forward from Madrid, was named to the Region 3 Second Team after averaging 11 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2 assists per game for the Jayhawks.
Luque scored a season-high 25 points in a loss to the University of Pitt-Bradford on Dec. 7 and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds twice; first against Lorain County CC on Nov. 30 and again versus Erie CC on Jan. 22.
