Constantino, Moppert Shine For Jayhawks

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — The Jamestown Community College Jayhawks had a great first day in the pool at the NJCAA National Championships at Indian River State College.

“Every swimmer we swam tonight had a personal best swim for the men and women,” stated Jayhawks coach Todd Conklin. “Really for a first day, we couldn’t have asked for a better start. Tomorrow is a big day, we have our most swims out of the four days. We will try to continue this momentum that we have.”

Kaylee Constantino (Frewsburg/Frewsburg HS) continued her terrific season by becoming an All-American in the 50-yard breaststroke with a seventh-place finish in a time of 32.50s. Tia Moppert (Gowanda/Gowanda HS) also became an All-American with a career best in the 200-yard IM where she had a sixth-place finish and Jade Vidas (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa/Parktown HS for girls) placed 11th in the 200-yard IM to earn a Honorable Mention All-American.

Lindsay Finch (Russel, Pa./Eisenhower HS) smashed a new school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle, taking 20 seconds off the previous record with a new time of 12:36.89.

Emily Lyon (Panama/Panama Central) and Kylee Hennessy (Warren, PA/Warren Area HS) also set new personal bests in the 50-yard breaststroke.

The team of Vidas, Lyon, Finch, and Jenna Fiebiger (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa/Fourways HS) placed seventh in the 800-yard freestyle relay, finishing with a time of 9:27.80.

As a team, the Jayhawks are in fifth place with 57 points, 16 points ahead of Region 3 foe Genesee Community College.

The men had several personal bests, including Colby Pantall (Jamestown/Maple Grove HS) shaving nearly 13 seconds off his previous time in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:49.74. Jackson Vanstrom (Jamestown/Southwestern High) also set a new personal best in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:32.34.

The men wrapped up competition in the 800 yard freestyle with the team of Pantall, Vanstrom, Joseph Keyser (Mayville/Chautauqua Lake Central), and Cole Carlson (Boonsboro, MD/Southwestern High) finishing in eight place with a time of 8:19.95.

As a team, the Jayhawks are in ninth place with 22 points, trailing Region 3 foe Genesee Community College by two points.

JCC will be back in action tomorrow morning for Session 3 starting at 9:30 a.m.
