Southwestern’s Kennedy Throws Two-Hitter Vs. Gators

ALLEGANY — Aidan Kennedy threw a complete-game two-hitter with one walk as Southwestern beat Allegany-Limestone 7-0 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West baseball Thursday.

“He threw a really good game,” Southwestern coach Jared Brown said. “He only threw 78 pitches.”

Nate Johnson led off the game with a triple and Kennedy followed with an RBI single. After a stolen base, Dustin Hendrix eventually hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Calvin Ricker walked and stole a base before Max Marshall hit a fielder’s choice and Ricker scored on a wild pitch.

Johnson tripled again in the second inning and Hendrix followed with an RBI double to make it 4-0. Marshall drove in Hendrix with a single.

Matt Pannes doubled down the right-field line and scored on a single from Kennedy in the sixth inning.

Kennedy finished 2 for 4; Johnson tripled twice and scored two runs; and Marshall drove in two runs for the Trojans (6-6, 6-6), who turned a pair of double plays in the game.

“We didn’t have any errors,” Brown said. “It was just clean baseball.”

Matt Giardini and Jayden Gustafson each singled for the Gators (1-12, 0-12).

BEARS TOP BROCTON

BROCTON — Frewsburg scored five runs over the final two innings to pull away from nonleague Brocton in an 11-4 win.

Ryan Schrecengost and Payton Dustin scored on an error before Joel McLaughlin scored on a groundout in the top of the sixth inning for the Bears (8-7, 5-4 CCAA D2 West). Then, in the top of the seventh, Jack Yost tripled and scored on a Traden Gray double before Schrecengost hit an RBI groundout.

Gray finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs and four runs scored; Yost had two hits and two runs scored; and Dustin had two hits and two runs scored.

Yost also earned the win on the mound with four innings of three-hit ball. Dustin threw the final three innings and the pair combined for five strikeouts.

Aiden Gatto went 3 for 3 and Kadin Ehmke doubled for the Bulldogs (1-11, 0-8 CCAA D2 East).

WARRIORS HANG ON

NORTH COLLINS — Salamanca took a 5-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning and hung on in the seventh for a 5-4 Division 1 East win over North Collins.

Shawn Bacelli reached on an error to lead off the sixth and eventually scored on a Hayden Hoag fielder’s choice to make it 5-3.

In the seventh, Eagles No. 9 hitter Matthew Warsaw singled with one out and scored on AJ Puntillo’s two-out double, but a fly out two batters later ended the game.

Harley Hoag and Bacelli each had two hits for the Warriors (10-5, 7-3) while Lucas McKenna threw a complete-game six-hitter with eight strikeouts on the mound.

Puntillo had two hits and three RBIs for North Collins (4-7, 3-7). Puntillo and Warsaw combined on a seven-hitter with two strikeouts on the mound.

PANTHERS PUT AWAY T’WOLVES

FRANKLINVILLE — A 10-run sixth inning allowed Franklinville to wrap up a 17-6 Division 1 East win over Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

The Timberwolves (0-9, 0-9) actually led 4-1 after the second inning and 6-5 as late as the fourth inning before the Panthers rallied.

Finally, Matt Peters ended the game with a walk-off RBI single.

Franklinville finished with 12 hits, led by Peters with three hits, including a two-run triple and an RBI single. Logan Frank had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs while Matt Spittler had two hits.

Blake Frank had seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings before Peters struck out one while getting the final two outs for the Panthers (3-7, 3-7).

Nick Savidge had two hits, including a double, while also striking out five in 5 1/3 innings on the mound for Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

WEDNESDAY

WOLFPACK RALLIES LATE

CLYMER — Kurtis Olsen hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning as Clymer/Sherman/Panama kept its perfect season alive with an 8-7 win over Chautauqua Lake in Division 2 West action Wednesday.

The Wolfpack led 2-0 after five innings before the Thunderbirds scored three runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh to take a 7-2 lead.

C/S/P answered with a six-run seventh inning to prevail.

Gabe Roth went 2 for 3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored; Derek Sears went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored; and Olsen went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored for the Wolfpack (9-0, 9-0). Roth also struck out 12 in 6 1/3 innings on the mound.

Nate Engdahl went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs; Kalen Miller went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored; and Jaylen Parkhurst had a double and two RBIs for the Thunderbirds (6-7, 3-7). Luke Waters, Miller and Tate Olson combined for six strikeouts on the mound.
