Herrington Pitches Gem, T’Birds Trim Westfield

MAYVILLE — Olivia Herrington tossed a one-hit shutout to lead Chautauqua Lake to a 9-0 victory over Westfield in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West softball game.

Herrington struck out 12 and walked three. Halleigh Dellow spoiled the no-hitter with a base hit in the third inning.

Herrington helped her own cause with a two-run single in the third inning, which proved to be all the runs she would need. The Thunderbirds added two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings and plated three more in the sixth.

Hannah Weise smacked a two-run double in the fifth, Herrington blasted a three-run home run in the sixth, and Tatem Zemcik and Hannah Bretz added a double and a single respectively for the Thunderbirds.

TROJANS FALL TO OLEAN

OLEAN — Southwestern nearly came all the way back, but a four-run rally in the top of the seventh inning wasn’t quite enough and Olean held on for a 7-6 CCAA Division 1 West victory.

Highlighting the Trojans’ comeback in the seventh was an RBI double by Kylee Dibble, and RBI singles by Allie Durnell and Sofia Genareo.

Genareo (triple, three RBIs), Dibble (double) and Durnell all had two hits for Southwestern. Genareo and Katie Lowe combined on a five-hitter.

Kiley Anastasia had two hits, including a double, Jolyn Gibbons belted a double and Makenna Pancio smacked a triple for the Huskies.

BEARS POST WALK-OFF WIN

FREWSBURG — Reagan Chitester’s groundout scored Payton Yost with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Frewsburg edged Sherman/Clymer, 6-5, in a CCAA Division 2 West game.

Yost started the inning with a single, stole second base and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Elise Sposato.

Chitester worked six innings in the circle, surrendering five hits, striking out 11 and walking five. Yost pitched one inning of relief.

Yost, Chitester (RBI triple), Braelyn Stelmack and Cadence Rodgers all had two hits for the Bears (5-7).

Paige Gratto had three hits for Sherman/Clymer (5-7).

JOHNSON HAS GAME WINNER

RANDOLPH — Lavani Johnson’s double with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Abby Mansfield with the winning run as Randolph edged Silver Creek, 8-7, in a CCAA Central Division game.

The Cardinals (7-2, 7-2) led 7-2 after six innings, but the Black Knights scored five times to tie the game before the hosts rallied. Mansfield started the uprising with a double.

Kyra Pence finished with three hits, including a triple, and Miranda Waterman (triple) and Mansfield (double) both had two hits for Randolph.

Amber Lockwood had two hits for Silver Creek.

KOTA LEADS GOWANDA

BROCTON — Gowanda upended Brocton, 13-4, as Zoey Kota did a little bit of everything.

Not only did she toss a five-hitter, but she helped her own cause with four hits, including a double, drove in a pair of runs, stole three bases and scored three times.

Lena Gao:wisa:s Stevens added three hits, including a double and two RBIs; and Abigail Valone (double) and Ella Luther (double, three RBIs) had two hits apiece for the Panthers.

Juli Smith struck out seven for the Bulldogs in a complete-game effort in the circle. Offensively, Christine Wdowiasz had two hits and two RBIs, and Savannah Krystofiak added an RBI triple.
