Stoughton Wins Tiebreaker To Claim Travel League’s Chautauqua GC Stop

CHAUTAUQUA — The Wednesday Travel League played Chautauqua Golf Club’s Hill Course with temperatures in the low 40s and recently aerated greens, making for tough scoring conditions last week.

Wayne Stoughton and Ed Tofil tied for the low score of 84, with Stoughton the overall winner on a tiebreaker. In a five-way tie for third place with 88s were Tom Destro, Mike Wolfe, Robert Calph, Robert Grant and Mick Dunning Sr.

Grant was low on the front nine with 40 while Tofil led the back nine with 40. Chad Gollnitz was the B Flight winner. In the C Flight, Tim Walawender was the winner after a tiebreaker with Jeff Marsowicz. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Bob Kujawa.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Dunning (No. 3), Dave Criscione (No. 13) and Ed Tofil (No. 17); B Flight — Bill Aldrich (No. 2, holed out from a sand trap), Ken Kaus (No. 15) and Pete Gawron (No. 17); C Flight — Walawender (Nos. 1, 9), Don Kujawa (No. 2), John Tofil (Nos. 7, 13), Jim Ellman Sr. (No. 8), Marsowicz (Nos. 15, 18) and Lenny Leszkowicz (No. 16).

Closest to the pin were Tom Destro (No. 2), Stoughton (No. 7), Jeff Rich (No. 13) and Marsowicz (No. 15). Winners of the May 5th “Cinco de Mayo” contest (most total 5s on the scorecard were: Criscione (A Flight), Anthony Destro (B Flight) and Pat Weaver (C Flight), all with 10 recorded 5s.

Top point winners were Criscione and John Tofil (35 apiece), Aldrich (30) and Marsowicz (25). Season points leaders: 1. Stoughton (121), 2. Ed Tofil (101), 3. John Tofil (81), 4. Rich (65), 5. Mike Wolfe (59), 6. Pete Pinkoski (54), 7. Dunning (50), 8. Aldrich (48), 9. Elllman (45), 10. Criscione (40).
