Section VI Finals Set For Saturday

The sprint to the finish of the Section VI girls volleyball season begins Thursday.

North Collins will be the No. 1 seed in Class D when quarterfinal gets going Tuesday. The Eagles will host No. 8 Clymer/Sherman at 6 p.m. Also in Class D, No. 2 Chautauqua Lake will host No. 7 Pine Valley; No. 4 Randolph will host No. 5 Maple Grove; and No. 3 Panama will host No. 6 Holland.

In Class C2, No. 5 Gowanda will travel to No. 4 Cleveland Hill on Tuesday with the winner advancing to Thursday’s semifinal at No. 1 Lafayette. On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Portville will host No. 7 Salamanca and No. 3 Wilson will host No. 6 Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

In Class C1, No. 6 Southwestern will visit No. 3 Eden while No. 7 Fredonia will travel to No. 2 Akron. On the other side of that bracket, No. 1 Da Vinci will host No. 8 Medina and No. 4 Royalton-Hartland will host No. 5 Olmsted.

The only other local team competing in the playoffs will be No. 6 Jamestown in Class AA. The Red Raiders will travel to No. 3 Lancaster for a Tuesday quarterfinal. No. 4 Lockport will host No. 5 Orchard Park with the winner advancing to Thursday’s semifinal at No. 1 Clarence while No. 2 Frontier will host No. 7 Williamsville North.

In Class A, No. 1 Grand Island will host No. 8 Kenmore East; No. 4 Hamburg will host No. 5 Williamsville South; No. 2 Sweet Home will host No. 7 South Park and No. 3 Niagara-Wheatfield will host No. 6 Hutch Tech.

City Honors is the No. 1 seed in Class B1 and will host No. 8 Iroquois. No. 4 Olean will host No. 5 Emerson/Buffalo Culinary; No. 2 Cheektowaga will host No. 7 West Seneca East; and No. 3 Lake Shore will host No. 6 Lewiston-Porter.

In Class B2, No. 1 Springville will await the winner of No. 5 Lackawanna at No. 4 Newfane. No. 2 Depew will host No. 7 Tonawanda and No. 3 Alden will host No. 6 Maryvale.

Thursday’s semifinals will take place at 6 p.m. at the higher seed and Sunday’s finals will begin at noon at the higher seed.

Only the top eight schools in each classification advanced to playoffs this season.
