No-Nos For Trojans, C/S/P

Southwestern’s Johnson, Walsh Strike Out 20; Wolfpack’s Sears Ks 12

LAKEWOOD — Nate Johnson was about as good as it gets for Southwestern on Wednesday afternoon.

The senior right-hander struck out 18 through six innings, and finished his day 2 for 3 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs.

Jameson Walsh completed a no-hitter for the hosts with two strikeouts in the seventh at Packard Field.

All told the effort added up to a 10-2 win for the Trojans (3-1, 3-1) over Allegany Limestone (1-4, 0-4) in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West play.

“Nate was definitely mixing his pitches well,” Southwestern head coach Jared Brown said. “It was the first time he’s been out where he has thrown more than two innings this year. This was his real first outing and he had a lot of pop on his fastball and his curveball was working really well. He was keeping Allegany’s hitters off balance for sure.”

Aidan Kennedy supplemented the offense, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs, a double and a home run — which came immediately after Johnson’s in the sixth inning.

“We rely on him as a senior leadoff hitter,” Brown said of Johnson. “He helped his own cause early with a triple, putting us up early, and then came up with a solo shot over the fence. All-around great performance by Nate.”

SEARS TOSSES NO-NO

WESTFIELD — Clymer/Sherman/Panama was a 10-0 winner over host Westfield as Derek Sears threw a six-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

Trent Burchanowski was 3 for 4 with three runs scored, a triple and a home run while Matt White was also 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three stolen bases.

Austin White finished his day 3 for 4 with an RBI and a double.

Garrett White added two singles for Clarence, while Riley Piazza struck a double in defeat.
