Sherman’s Gratto Earns D2 West’s Top Honor
Mackenzie Gratto has been named the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West Player of the Year after aiding Sherman to 12-3 record and a Section VI Class D title.
In her final season on the hardwood Gratto averaged 14.3 points and 12.8 rebounds per contest, notching 15 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals, two blocked shots and two assists in the Wildcats’ title victory over Panama.
Sherman head coach Emily Eckwahl and Clymer head coach Scott Neckers were named co-Coaches of the Year. Clymer ended its season with a 6-8 record.
First-Team selections included both Elise Sposato and Mikala Jones of Frewsburg. The Bears finished the year at 9-4, with Sposato averaging 14 points per game as a junior and Jones 13.9 as a senior.
Mandy Brink was selected to the First Team for Panama after a strong sophomore campaign that included 19.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.9 steals and 3.8 assists per game.
Senior Emma Wiggers earned a First-Team spot for Clymer, averaging 11 points per game, as did Kaylee Pattyson of Cassadaga Valley, who averaged 18.5 points per game.
Second-Team selections included Jenna Fisher and Paige Gratto of Sherman; Haleigh Dellow and Juli Smith of Westfield/Brocton; Sarah Meder of Cassadaga Valley; and Jo Bailey of Panama.
Westfield/Brocton earned the Team Sportsmanship award and Wiggers the individual honor for Clymer.
