Panama Still Perfect In Volleyball

BROCTON — Panama (4-0, 4-0) was a 25-10, 25-6, 25-10 winner over Brocton (0-4, 0-4) in CCAA North Division play Thursday.

Leading Panama was Ashlyn Harvey with six kills, one block, three points and three aces; Mandy Brink had three kills, 18 points, six aces; and Maddie Johnson added 12 assists, seven points, two aces.

Brocton’s Juli Smith had two kills, two digs, four points and one ace while Jena Vacanti added three blocks, one kill and one assist.

Panama won the jayvee contest, 2-1.

THUNDERBIRDS NOTCH WIN AT HOME

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua Lake (3-1, 3-1) was a 25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21 winner over Clymer/Sherman (1-2, 1-2) in another close North Division matchup.

“I think that Clymer/Sherman is very good. They are going to surprise some people,” Thunderbirds coach Joanne Meadows said. “They are a well-rounded team. I think that caught us off guard a little bit. Their serving is tough and they hit well. We start out slow and we started out slow again today. Luckily, we played great defense when it counted. I think our hitting was more consistent tonight than it was against Panama.”

Lily Woodis had seven kills, one ace, 16 digs and 10 assists; Brynn Engdahl seven kills, three aces, seven digs; Mallory Morrison added four kills, four digs and 10 assists; and Jenna Waters added 22 digs in the win.

For Clymer/Sherman Amaya Lewczyk had 10 kills, two assists and six digs; Emma Wiggers collected nine kills, eight digs and five aces; while Mikayla Einink added 11 assists and six digs.

Chautauqua Lake won the jayvee match as well.

OFFENSE CLICKING

Maple Grove volleyball coach Curt Miceli has put some new offensive schemes in place for his team this week, and the changes seem to be working.

The Red Dragons moved to 3-1 on the year and 3-1 in league play with a 25-23, 25-15, 25-14 win over Westfield (2-2, 2-2).

“We made a complete change at the beginning of this week, so I am trying some new offense with them,” Miceli said. “I switched something from what they have been doing forever. We are trying something new to get a little more aggressiveness in our lineup. The girls are buying in a lot and I’m happy with it. I’m happy with the progression we’re making.”

Leading the way for Maple Grove were Eliza Dawes with 11 attacks, eight digs, five kills; Samantha Snow had 21 attacks, six assists, 11 service aces and six kills; Tessa Reed added 18 attacks and six kills; Emma Foley recorded five digs and five blocks; Erin Mansfield had 14 assists, 12 service aces.

Leading Westfield was Kerara Kincaid with 11 kills and four blocks, while Tanleigh Bestine added eight assists and four kills.

Maple Grove won the jayvee contest. The Red Dragons will face a strong test next week against Chautauqua Lake.

NONLEAGUE

RANDOLPH HOLDS OFF FALCONER

RANDOLPH — Falconer (4-2, 2-2 Central) was a 26-24, 25-23, 22-25, 25-17 over host Randolph (2-2, 2-1 East) in nonleague play.

Leading the Golden Falcons was Ava Fenton with five kills, 19 digs and one ace; Emily Melquist had nine kills, one block, 11 digs and one ace; Serena Camarata collected 21 assists, one block and six digs; Rachael Harper had nine kills, two assists, one block, 10 digs and two aces; while Ashton Beckerink added 12 digs and four aces.

Eve Adams had 20 assists, five digs, two blocks and one ace for Randolph. Alyssa Adams chipped in 11 kills, two aces and two blocks; and Sydney Hvizdzak had eight kills, two aces and seven digs.

Randolph won the jayvee match.
