GREENVILLE, Pa. — The Jamestown Community College wrestling team opened its season Saturday, falling to NCAA Division II Thiel College, 33-15.

The Jayhawks (0-1) fell behind early as Marcus Evans (Randolph/Randolph HS) was defeated by Evan Whiteside via pin in the 125-pound match.

Jamestown CC quickly took the lead with wins by Taige Jones (Bemus Point, /Maple Grove HS) and Trenton Donahue (DuBois, PA/DuBois Area HS). Jones posted an 8-2 decision over Jake Alberts in the 133-pound bout, and Donahue put the Jayhawks up 9-6 with a fall over Hunter Martz in the 141-pound match.

The Tomkats regained the lead in the next two rounds, going up 17-9. JCC battled back in the 174-pound round with Ross Abrams (Eden/Eden Central), getting the fall against Frank Gill.

Thiel secured the victory, winning the next three bouts.

In exhibition competition, Donahue picked up an 8-0 major decision win over Hunter Martz; Alex Christy (Fredonia/Fredonia HS) also picked up a victory, defeating Trey Wilt in the heavyweight bout.

The Jayhawks will be back in action next Saturday in a tri-match, hosting Thiel College and NCAA Division II Gannon University at 4 p.m.
