Beaver Showcases All-Around Game As Trojans Coast To Win

Reece Beaver had 16 points, nine assists, six steals and six rebounds as Southwestern beat Allegany-Limestone, 83-34, in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West girls basketball Tuesday.

Sofia Genareo led the Trojans (2-1, 2-0) with 24 points to go along with eight rebounds and two blocked shots while Kira Ricker added 20 points and four assists.

Freshman Maddie McIntyre chipped in 11 points and a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with four steals for Southwestern, which led 44-17 at halftime before outscoring the Gators (1-4, 1-4), 26-7, in the third quarter.

Gianna DeRose led Allegany-Limestone with 9 points.

HVIZDZAK HAS ANOTHER BIG GAME

RANDOLPH — Sydney Hvizdzak had her third 30-point game as Randolph trimmed Portville, 61-56, in Division 1 East play to hand the Panthers their first loss.

Portville (4-1, 1-1) led 14-10 after the first quarter, but Hvizdzak scored 11 of her game-high 30 points in the second quarter as the Cardinals (6-0, 3-0) took a 31-26 lead into halftime.

“We didn’t change anything, we just kept playing,” Randolph coach David Pihlblad said.

“Syd started getting to the hoop,” Pihlblad added. “We settled for some outside shots early on, but Syd kept attacking and attacking.”

After the break, the teams matched each other with 30-point halves, but Randolph’s five-point lead held up.

Kyra Pence added 9 points and four assists; Alyssa Adams had 8 points; Hvizdzak had five rebounds and three steals; and Payton Morrison had five rebounds in the win.

“We just didn’t come out the way I expected,” Pihlblad said. “Portville played really hard the whole game. … It was good for us to get down and have to battle back.”

Mallory Welty led the Panthers with 25 points to go along with four assists. Lillian Bentley had 15 points and eight rebounds; Jill Hlasnick had 9 points, six assists and three steals and Mia Welty grabbed nine rebounds.

CLYMER — Emma Wiggers scored 18 points and Karlie Honey scored 8 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and made four steals to spark Clymer to a 53-35 Division 2 West victory over Cassadaga Valley.

Aurora Ordines contributed 10 points and Mikala Einink added six assists for the Pirates (2-1, 2-0).

Kaylee Pattyson paced the Cougars (1-4, 0-2) with 15 points and 13 rebounds, Sarah Meder checked in with 16 points, and Brielle LeBaron chipped in five assists and five blocks.

SHERMAN — Mackenzie Gratto had 22 points, 12 rebounds and eight steals as Sherman coasted past Westfield/Brocton, 71-31, in Division 2 West.

Paige Gratto had 16 points and four assists while Jenna Fisher had 15 points and four assists for the Wildcats (3-2, 2-1), who led 36-18 at halftime before outscoring the Wolverines (0-3, 0-3) 21-4 in the third quarter.

Tanleigh Bestine led Westfield/Brocton with 12 points while Haleigh Dellow grabbed six rebounds.

Tachiana Garcia led the Marauders (0-5, 0-4) with 11 points.
