Northwest Arena recently hosted Week 6 of its Backyard Curling Leagues sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique.

5:45 JEROD ZAHN-REALTOR MONDAY LEAGUE

4 Below Haggy’s Bar & Grille jumped into second place in the standings as it went 2-0 this week. Becca Allen and Maggie Dalton led the charge as Haggy’s knocked off former champion Legion of Broom, 49-32, and Sonic Sliders, 35-27. League leaders Fruit of the Brooms defeated Scuba Crew, 34-33, and CurlRona, 38-33, with Ed Cramer and Pete Snyder leading the way. Tyler Petersen’s stellar performance led Tim Hortons with wins over Scuba Crew, 43-30, and Gemstones, 45-24.

Sonic Sliders opened their night with a 48-45 victory over Curling Me Softly as John Girts was the outstanding curler. CurlRona ended its night with a victory over Legion of Broom, 32-29, with strong play from Brian Orlando. Curling Me Softly secured a victory over Shoeless Joe’s Pub, 37-27, thanks to strong play from Greg Fye. Shoeless Joe’s Pub opened its night by defeating Gemstones, 42-15, as Chad Waddington was its first star.

6:45 JEROD ZAHN-REALTOR MONDAY LEAGUE

Newcomers The Don Curleones recorded their first sweep of the year with wins over On The Rocks, 44-37, and Rolling Stones, 21-19, as they received strong play from Marty Abers. Mary’s Smooth Red Curlers remained atop the division as they defeated Rolling Stones, 43-35, and On the Rocks, 45-39, with outstanding play coming from David Lobb and Todd Conklin. Also going 2-0 were The Outsliders as they defeated Stone Cold, 35-31, and Quaranteam, 42-35, as Jordan Coccagnia was outstanding for the Sliders.

Coming off its Friday Night Lights tournament championship last weekend, Short & Curly defeated Stone Cold, 40-23, as Jamie Smith led the way. Quaranteam knocked off Short & Curly in their first game, 39-33, with their top curler being Chad VanEvery.

5:15 STEVE CHAMBERS @ DAVE WARREN JEEP WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Both TRCurlers and the Pepsi Banger-Z moved up in the standings with two wins apiece this week. TRCurlers defeated Rocks on Rocks off, 52-37, and Curl Power, 52-34, as they were led by Kevin Anderson and Bruce Main. Pepsi Banger-Z secured its two wins over the Merrill Lynch Cirls, 49-46, and Casey’s Enterprise, 37-34, behind strong play from Mia Goot and Greg Storms.

Going 1-1 on the night were the Merrill Lynch Cirls as they defeated the Pepsi Rockstar-Z, 45-37, behind strong play from Darla Jo Nelson. Also knocking off the Rockstar-Z was Casey’s Enterprise, 48-28, as Brian DeVine showed off his curling prowess. Rocks on, Rocks off remained at the top of its division with a win over Hindy’s Hurlers, 42-38, as they were led by Jim Cama. Hindy’s Hurlers started off their night with a victory over Curl Power, 39-37, as Mark Hinderleider showed his strong stick work.

6:15 STEVE CHAMBERS @ DAVE WARREN JEEP WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Curls Gone Wild earned two victories over both the Lewis & Lewis teams, 43-35, and, 31-26, behind strong play from Ben Snow and Mark Snow.

The Ice Men took out R2 J2, 27-25, and Paving Ice with Justin Swanson being their top curler. Paving Ice bounced back with a win over Sky Rocketeers, 41-34, with Kevin Gastol leading the way. R2 J2 also pulled off a win over the Rocketeers, 43-35, receiving outstanding play from Dennis Finnerty. Lewis & Lewis I knocked off the Brush Offs, 27-15, as John Panebianco led the way. Brush Offs upended Lewis & Lewis II, 19-17, as Steve Shelters was their top curler.

7:15 STEVE CHAMBERS @ DAVE WARREN JEEP WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Sub Zero took sole possession of first place with its 2-0 week by defeating Stones of Fury, 35-30, and 12 oz. Curlers, 44-29, as they received outstanding play from Mike Currie and Tina Currie. Curl Power also recorded two wins as it bested 12 oz. Curlers, 37-19, and Stones of Fury, 30-21, with Jenn Scolton showing her curling prowess. Frozme Stones earned two victories over Home Despots, 43-42, on JoJo Walter’s deciding stone and Lemon Pepper, 43-23.

Going 1-1 this week was Dot’s Gift Boutique as it also defeated Lemon Pepper, 48-23, led by Rob Loll. Home Despots returned the favor as they knocked off Dot’s, 37-35, as Kenny Macdonald was the smooth curler.

4:30 RYAN DEPPAS-LEGEND GROUP FRIDAY LEAGUE

Freezerburn’s team effort leaped it to the top of the division with a pair of victories over Bottoms Up, 37-35, and TBA, 52-42. Tracey’s Dog kept pace with Freezerburn as it also picked up two wins over 4 Below Haggy’s Bar & Grille, 38-30, and Bottoms Up, 45-35, with Katie Lucas being the top curler. Also going 2-0 were the Bemus Boulders with wins over The Chestnuts, 28-25, and the Seminar Group, 42-41, as they received outstanding play from Peter Sullivan.

Beth Snow carried Sweeping Beauties over The Chestnuts, 38-37. Nikki’s Team went 1-1 on the night with a 36-30 win over Sweeping Beauties as Sean Nowling led the way.
