Adult Curling

Week 1 of the Northwest Arena Fall Backyard Curling Leagues, sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique, got off to an outstanding start with all 50 teams competing.

Results for the Monday Night is as follows:

5:45 MONDAY LEAGUE

Stone Cold Curlers got off to a hot start to the season as they went undefeated, going 2-0 against Curling Me Softly (48-37) and the Scuba Crew (45-42), with Brian Franklin getting the game winner on the last stone of the game.

Curling Me Softly was led by Mike Wilson as it rebounded with a 29-28 win over CurlRona. Scuba Crew bounced back with a 37-29 win over CurlRona, with Jake Twinam being the leading curler.

Also going 2-0 were the Pepsi Rockstar-Z with victories over Legion of Broom, 45-34, and Shoeless Joe’s Pub, 41-27, with strong play from Kellie Warner. In another close match, The Pepsi Banger-Z edged Shoeless Joe’s Pub, 41-37, with Greg Storms leading the way. Legion of Broom evened its record at 1-1 with a 54-29 win over the Pepsi Bangers as Mike Dietrick was the leading curler for the Broomers.

6:45 MONDAY LEAGUE

Two-time defending champions Mary’s Smooth Red Curlers were defeated by Short & Curly in the season opener, 40-34, as Jamie Smith took down the Red Curlers with his outstanding play. Short & Curly also took down newcomers The Outsliders, 41-37, to start the season out 2-0.

The Outsliders picked up their very first win of their careers with a 37-22 win over Always Late, but Worth the Wait, as Joe Hinman and Levi Madden led the charge. Also new to the curling circuit, Stone Cold out of Frewsburg, captured two wins by defeating On the Rocks, 50-38, and Joe’s Slammers, 38-26, with Josiah Blanchard and Kenzie Caldwell leading the way. Also, going 2-0 were newcomers Rolling Stone led by Chris Baglia and Troy Stimson as they defeated Joe’s Slammers, 31-29, and On the Rocks, 32-31, as Stimson slid the final and winning stone in overtime.

JEEP WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

The Merrill Lynch Cirls had an outstanding first night to capture their first two wins of the season over Hindy’s Hurlers, 44-40, and TRCurlers, 47-45, behind strong play from Darla Jo Nelson as she capped her night with a thrilling double-overtime last stone to defeat the TRCurlers. Golfers on Ice also jumped out to a strong first night starting out 2-0 on opening night, besting Rocks on, Rocks off, 39-35, and the TRCurlers, 45-27, with the star performers being Bob Drake and Jon Peterson. Teams going 1-1 on the night were Hindy’s Hurlers, led by Kim Hurley and Mark Hinderleider, and the Home Despots with Todd Singleton and Kenny Macdonald leading the way.

JEEP WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

The Brush Offs took the top spot on opening night with 79 points and going 2-0, with wins over Curls Gone Wild, 45-35, and the Jamestown Hammer, in a close one, 34-33, with Nick Kahanic and Steve Shelters being the top performers. Also, going 2-0 with an impressive start to their rookie season was, Lewis & Lewis, with wins over Throwing Stones, 32-22, and The Cremators, 26-21, with strong play from Cathy Panebianco and Cindy Panebianco. The Sky Rocketeers went 1-1 on the night, with their top curler being Julia Ciesla-Hanley, along with the Jamestown Hammers, led by Justin Rader. Also going 1-1 on opening night was newcomer Throwing Stones with Brian Brown leading the way and The Cremators, led to victory by Nicole Cowan. Going winless on the night were Curls Gone Wild and Paving Ice, led by Amy Hook and Kevin Gastol respectively.

7:15 STEVE CHAMBERS@DAVE WARREN JEEP WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Curl Power had a tremendous opening night by going 2-0, downing The Joly Riches, 39-29, and The Oldies, but Goodies, 35-29, with their team being pushed to victory by Danelle Karlson and Christine Silzle. Dot’s Gift Boutique also came out strong on opening night by eclipsing both of their opponents and going 2-0, beating Rolling Rocks, 43-42, and New Kicks, 40-32, with Rob Loll and Rex McCray leading the way to their strong start. Teams that were 1-1 were Rolling Rocks, earning an exciting overtime win over Peterson’s Candies/Neil’s Propane on Erik Dahlgren’s final stone; Ready to Rock with Kelly Dawson being their top curler; The Oldies, but Goodies being carried to victory by Bruce Fagerstrom; and Peterson’s Candies/Neil’s Propane with Chris Dole leading the way.

4:30 FRIDAY LEAGUE

The inaugural Friday afternoon league got off to a great start with the Seminar Group leading the way by going 2-0 and scoring 97 points. They were led by newcomer Peter Stark, as they defeated the Baby Broomers, 49-25) and We’ve got the Stones, 48-28. Right behind them was the outstanding play of the Fruit of the Brooms, who had victories over the Elks Club, 44-42, and Sweeping Beauties, 51-40, as Frank Fuller and Ed Cramer were sliding it well. Also going 2-0 were Beer Drinking Button Mashers, as they bested Sweeping Beauties, 47-41, and 4 Below Haggy’s Bar & Grille, 40-37, with Bob Paterniti being their top curler. Freezerburn captured two wins, as it defeated Justin Other Team, 40-35, and Bert’s Bonspieler’s, 22-18, as Steve Tanner slid his team to the button. Going 1-1 on the day were, Justin Other Team, the Elks Club, 4 Below Haggy’s Bar & Grille and Harvii Curlers as they were led by Laura Snow, Tim Anderson, Terry Garvin and Chris Rogers. Playing well for newcomers Sweeping Beauties, We’ve got the Stones, Baby Broomers and Bert’s Bonspieler’s were Beth Snow, Kathy Rossey, Linda Lombardo and Mary Rappole respectively.
