HAMMETT, Pa. — Yet another prefect summer evening greeted fans at Eriez Speedway for the Penn-Ohio Pro Stocks $1,000-to-win special. When the night was complete Leigh Wheeler had the Penn-Ohio Pro Stock/Curtze Food Service Street Stock victory after taking over the lead at the halfway point.

Mike Knight led from lap 17 when the early leader was trapped in lapped traffic to win the Mill Run Collision Super Late Model feature. Max Blair took over the lead seven laps from the finish after a side-by-side battle with Darrell Bossard in the Nic Dit Trucking RUSH Late Model finale. Joel Watson claimed the Waterford Hotel E-Mod win after inheriting the lead when Randy Hall’s power-plant erupted in a cloud of smoke five laps from the finish. Nate Young shared the lead with Zack Lenart on lap one, then dominated the Johnson’s Car Care and Collision Economod feature to pick up the win. Pat Hanlon led the final two laps of the L&D Tree Service Challengers night-capper to take the win.

After four heat races and a “B” Main trimmed the 43 entries to 25 of the region’s fastest Penn-Ohio Pro Stocks the $1,000-to-win 20-lap feature, the green flag flew for their special for the Curtze Food Service Street Stocks with Shaun Hooks and Steve Yokum starting on the front row. The field only made it to the head of the backstretch when John Boardman, the defending Eriez track champion, found himself facing the wrong way in traffic, collecting Jason Covey, David Schauers, Kyle Couchenour, Brent Crandall, Tom Teed, Lonnie Waldron, Jimmy Kennerknecht, Bill Reeves and Steve Keith in the mass pike-up.

While the field was stopped awaiting track cleanup, Doug Iorio sprung a water leak and headed pitside. When the race began and one lap was in the books it was Hooks leading the way over Noah Brunell, Wheeler, Josh Seippel and Curt Bish Jr. Yellow was shown at two complete when Schauers got in the front straight wall. The top five was the same at the end of three laps then Wheeler came to second at the end of four. He was challenging for the lead at five laps but Hooks was still holding the spot when yellow again slowed the race at lap six when Michael Reed and Jason Fosnaught spun in turn four. The lead battle heated up at lap nine when Hooks and Wheeler were side by side at the flag stand, then at halfway Hooks slid sideways in turn two, coming to a halt at the pit entrance. After restarting he just drove back to the pit, done for the night. After green was again over the track Brunell spun from second place in turn four at lap 12 then caution again at lap 15 when Couchenour slowed on the track with a flat right front tire. Bish took over second at three laps from the end with Joshua Seippel and points leader Jackson Humanic side by side for third with two to go. While Wheeler was speeding to the win Bish held on to second with Humanic winning the battle for third and Chris McGuire, a former Eriez champion, coming to fourth over Seippel, fifth.

Next up were the Waterford Hotel E-Mods, brought to the line by Watson, a former champion, and Greg Johnson. Watson led lap one followed by fourth-starting Randy Hall. Hall shot to the lead on the back straight of lap two then Robert Cettell stopped in turn two, drawing caution. Ken Zimmer spun on the main straight but caution had already been shown for Cettell so Zimmer was restored to his spot in the running order. At lap three it was Hall leading Watson, Justin Carlson, Johnson and Steve Rex. Lap eight had caution flying, again for Cettell, this time spun in turn four. At halfway it was Hall over Watson, Rex, Carlson and Adam Ashcroft, a winner earlier this season. With five to go Hall was extending his lead and coming to lapped traffic when his car started emitting smoke, then erupting in very heavy smoke, the victim of apparent major engine failure, ending his run. At the checkers it was Watson, Carlson, Rex, Ashcroft and Johnson.

Bossard and Billy Henry brought the Nic Dit Trucking RUSH Late Models to green with Bossard taking the immediate lead over Henry, Blair, David Parker and Scott Dellahoy. At three laps Blair was second with Dellahoy fourth and Chub Frank up to fifth. At five laps Blair was challenging for the top spot but Bossard was holding on still at lap seven when Brad Stoeger spun in turn four directly in front of the leaders. Starter Mark Matthews sent him pitside. In turn two on lap eight the lead battle was three-wide among Blair, Henry, and Bossard. Bossard had it at the line but Blair was again challenging at the halfway point with Frank now fourth. Bossard opened to a two-length lead at lap 11 but caution slowed the event again four cars were involved in a fracas off turn two onto the back straight. At lap 13 Blair and Bossard were again side by side on the backstretch with Blair leading at the line. Another caution at lap 14 slowed the race. After green the battle was for second with Henry taking it at 15 laps then Bossard back in the position at 16. At the finish it was Blair, Bossard, Henry, Frank and Kyle Zimmerman.

Twenty cars started the 15-lap Johnson’s Car Care and Collision Economod feature with Lenart and John Boyd leading the way. A complete restart was necessary when Ed Roberts spun in turn one. The first lap was a side by side race for the lead with Young and Lenart near even at the stripe. Boyd, was third with another side-by-side deal between Gary Olson and Mike Boyd for fourth. Yellow was out in lap two for two cars tangled in turn two. At green it was Young, Lenart, John Boyd, Gary Olson and Bob Vogt. Caution again flew at lap five for Dale Reiser, spun on the front straight. Jarett Young came to fifth at lap seven. Mike Boyd tried climbing the front straight wall at lap nine, but kept going, then retired pitside. With three laps to go Nate Young enjoyed a half-straight lead over Lenart, Boyd, Jarett Young and Vogt. On the final lap Boyd went to the top of the track and Jarett Young to the low side with Lenart in the center to run three wide off turn four to the checkers. The finish was Nate Young, Boyd, Lenart, Jarett Young and Vogt.

The Mill Run Collision Super Late Model feature was started with Steve Kania and Dave Hess Jr. on the front row with Hess, the defending champion, taking the lead at the green. Fourth starting Matt Lux came to second with Knight, Kania and Andy Boozel filling out the top five. On the front straight Easton Hedman tried climbing the retaining wall but kept going, although then pulling to the infield off the back straight. The order remained the same through lap seven when caution was shown for David Lyon, spun in turn two. Knight pulled into second on the restart with Boozel gaining fourth at lap ten and Chub Frank coming into the top five at lap 12. At halfway the top five were Hess, Knight, Lux, Boozel and Frank. The rear of the field started going a lap down to the leaders at lap 16 then a lapped car slowed Hess enough that Knight was able to take advantage and assume the lead at 17. Fourth-running Boozel experienced an apparent flat tire at nineteen laps. The top five now were Knight, Hess, Lux, Frank and Max Blair. A caution at lap 20 was for debris on the main straight. Blair got to fourth after green, then Lux slipped wide in turn four at 22 laps, allowing Blair to take third. Greg Oakes got by Frank for fifth after green. The top five wound up as Knight, Hess, Blair, Lux and Oakes.

The final event of the night was the L&D Tree Service Challengers. At the green, Jonathan Seeking was deemed by the flag an to have jumped the start and was penalized all the way to the last spot in the lineup. At the next green it was Jeremy Start leading Holden Heineman, Austyn Richards, Joe Mason and Tommy LaBarbera. Heineman was leading at three laps with Hanlon up to third, all the way from 12th in the original lineup with Richards fourth and points-leader Chris Horton fifth. Horton was fourth at four laps then caution for a spin on the front straight by Joe Lindberg. At green Heineman was still up front over Hanlon with Horton third, last week’s winner Mark Lawrence fourth and Smart fifth. Coming through the field after his penalty, Seekings tried climbing the front straight wall but kept going. At seven laps the leaders were side by side as Hanlon was challenging Heineman for the top spot with Lawrence third, Smart up to fourth, and Horton fifth. Lawrence was second at lap nine. The finish was Hanlon, Lawrence, Heineman, Horton and Brandon Huffman, who took over fifth in the waning laps.
