Former Bonnies Griffin, Ndoye Sign Overseas

Former St. Bonaventure basketball players continue to have a busy summer signing new contracts to play professionally around the world.

While Jaylen Adams (’18) signed to return to the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers this week, two other former Bonnies have recently inked deals to play internationally. LaDarien Griffin (’19) has signed with the Vilpas Vikings, which are members of the top professional league in Finland, while Youssou Ndoye (’15) will play next season with Real Betis in the top Spanish league.

In his first season as a professional, Griffin played in 33 games and averaged 13.2 points in Sweden and led his team in rebounding 9.2 boards per game. He played over 31 minutes per contest and shot over 61 percent from the floor and even drained 26 3-pointers.

Griffin was named the 2017-18 Atlantic 10 Co-Most Improved Player and helped the Bonnies to the 2018 NCAA Tournament while playing 97 career games at St. Bonaventure.

Ndoye has been a force in the top French league in recent years, leading that league in rebounding last season before committing to move to Spain for 2020-21. With the French League’s JL Bourg in 2018-19, Ndoye averaged 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, hitting 61.7 percent of his shot attempts from the floor (164 for 266). He averaged 29.4 minutes in 31 games and led the team on the boards. He also earned a championship along the way during his time in France.

The 7-foot center was named All-Atlantic 10 and picked to the A-10 All-Defensive Team as a senior at St. Bonaventure and was one of two players in the conference during his senior season of 2014-15 to average a double-double for the season.

A total of 24 players during the Mark Schmidt era at St. Bonaventure have gone on to play pro.
