Jones, Rojas Honored In Class AA

SYRACUSE — Two juniors on the Jamestown High School boys basketball team have received recognition from the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Forward Demarri Jones and guard Elijah Rojas are Class AA 15th-team and honorable-mention selections respectively after leading the Red Raiders to the Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 regular-season championship this season.

The announcement was made Thursday on the NYSSWA website.

Jones averaged 17.4 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game, earning him ECIC Division 1 Player-of-the-Year and all-ECIC first-team honors.

Meanwhile, Rojas averaged 12.2 points. 4.6 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game, and was a second-team ECIC Division 1 selection.

The Red Raiders finished the season 15-7, advancing to the Section VI Class AA semifinals.

Other Western New Yorkers named to various all-state teams are senior guard Jaemon Turner, Niagara Falls, 13th team; and senior guard-forward Breht Swiech, Williamsville North, 16th team.

Honorable-mention choices in Class AA include seniors Tino Mancabelli and Brad Fowler, Orchard Park; and senior Gianluca Fulciniti and junior Joe Harrington, Lancaster.

The Class AA state co-Players of the Year are senior R.J. Davis of Archbishop Stepinac and senior Andre Curbelo of Long Island Lutheran.
