Jessica Wilcox (Forestville/Pine Valley) recently set the all-time softball strikeout record for Alfred University.

The 5-foot-7 senior pitcher established a new career mark on March 9, passing former Saxon Brittany Curran in a 10-0 win over Penn State-Hazleton in Clermont, Florida. Wilcox finished that matchup with 11 strikeouts, improving her career total, at the time, to 358.

In 2020 alone, she has tossed 27 innings and hasn’t given up an earned run. She has only surrendered 14 hits and holds an overall record of 3-2.

In 2019, Wilcox was named a team captain and tied her own school record with 14 strikeouts in a single game in a shutout win over St. John Fisher College. She broke the school record for most shutout wins (seven) in a single season against SUNY Cortland. She added another shutout win over Oswego State to up her school record to eight single-season shutout wins. In addition, Wilcox broke her own school record for strikeouts in a season (154). She led the Alfred pitching staff in wins (17), ERA (2.49), strikeouts (154), innings pitched (166), complete games (16), shutouts (eight), and batting average-against (.243).

Wilcox played soccer, basketball and softball at Pine Valley Central School. She was a New York State High School Athletic Association Second-Team All-State selection in both her junior and senior years.

In 2019, Voss pitched to an ERA of 4.13 in 52.1 innings. He compiled 80 strikeouts, gave up 30 hits and 24 earned runs. His best performance of 2019 came in March against Mansfield, where he tossed six shutout innings and racked up 10 strikeouts.
