Two local high school basketball teams will look to advance to regional play in Section VI crossover matchups today.

After their 49-46 Class C-2 victory over Holland on Friday night, the Randolph boys will face C-1 champion Middle Early College in the crossover game at 5:15 at Buffalo State.

Branson Morrison’s 3-pointer late in the game helped put the Cardinals (22-1) ahead for good to help them clinch the C-2 title and advance to a rematch with the Kats. Meanwhile, Middle Early College defeated Tapestry, 73-50, in the C-1 championship at Jamestown Community College’s Physical Education Complex on Friday.

“I’ve seen the tape,” Randolph coach Kevin Hind said of Middle Early College. “Four of those kids from last year are back. They’re very physical, very athletic and they play good defense.”

Hind added: ”They are athletic enough, even more athletic than Holland, where they will do a good job throwing different things at us and will force us to have to play basketball.”

Randolph is ranked second in the state by the New York State Sportswriters Association, while Middle Early College is ranked sixth. The winner will advance to Saturday’s Far West Regional at Buffalo State at 1:45 pm against the Section V champion, either Caledonia-Mumford or Lyons. Those teams square off on Wednesday.

Chautauqua Lake and Holland will meet in the girls Class C crossover game at 6 p.m. at Jamestown CC.

The Thunderbirds clinched the C-1 title thanks to 21 points from Lily Woodis in a 67-49 victory over Falconer on Saturday afternoon at the Physical Education Complex, while Holland squeaked out a 60-59 victory over reigning Class D champion Franklinville in the C-2 championship game.

The winner will advance to the Far West Regional at 3 p.m. Saturday at Rush-Henrietta High School to play the winner of Section V’s Keshequa and Pembroke game.
