JCC Baseball Drops Season Opener

ERIE, Pa.–Four earned runs in the seventh and eighth innings were the difference as the Jamestown Community College baseball team fell to Gannon University junior varsity, 4-1, in their first game of the season.

“Even though it was a loss, it was a clean game,” Jayhawks head coach Jordan Basile said. “Considering we were playing a Division II school, I thought we played pretty well for our first time out.”

Evan Harrison pitched six innings of one-hit, shutout ball on 72 pitches, striking out eight and waking one. Shaun Holyfield, who recorded the loss, allowed one hit and two earned runs, striking out two.

Center-fielder Paul Tripi went 3-for-4, while right-fielder Cole Tippens went 2-for-3 with a triple. Billy Harmon recorded the lone RBI for the Jayhawks.

The Jayhawks will be back in action on March 21 with a doubleheader at the CC of Allegheny County.
