Jamestown CC Opens Softball Season Today

The coronavirus has impacted the sports programs at many colleges and universities across the country, but according to Jamestown Community College athletic director George Sisson, the Jayhawks’ softball team will play a doubleheader today in Ohio as scheduled.

“It hasn’t affected us yet,” Sisson said. “As of late (Thursday), many (NJCAA Region 3) schools are indicating they are moving forward with their spring season.”

While acknowledging that “tomorrow could bring a whole different story,” Sisson said that regional athletic directors were scheduled to hold a conference call this morning that is “just a voicing of where everyone is on individual campuses.”

Sisson can report that Jamestown CC will take the softball field for the first time in years when it meets Edison CC in a twinbill, beginning at 4:15 this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Jayhawks’ baseball team, which opened its season earlier this week, doesn’t play again until March 21 at the CC of Allegheny County.

“We’re evaluating this on a daily basis,” Sisson said. “We’re preparing academically, as the governor has asked, to move toward social distancing to do our academic work to try and eliminate as many large-group situations as we can.”
