Thomas Scores 19, But JCC Men Fall To Genesee CC

BATAVIA — Despite 19 points from Jordan Thomas, the Jamestown Community College men’s basketball team could not contain the trio of Jalen Willis , Selassie Bourne and Devin Green from Genesee CC, falling, 98-70, to the Cougars in NJCAA Region 3 Division II action on Wednesday night.

Bourne led the Cougars with 23 points, while Willis and Green scored 21 and 20 respectively. Bourne finished 8 of 12 from the field, draining three 3-pointers.

Thomas went 7 of 11 from the field and also knocked down three treys. He also led the team with eight boards. Teammate Kyle Butler finished with 16 points of 6 of 11 shooting and two 3-pointers.

At half, Jamestown trailed 37-28 before being outscored 61-42 after the break.

The Jayhawks are back in action on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Erie CC.

WOMEN

JAYHAWKS BOW, 71-52

BATAVIA — Kayla Hohl’s team-high 16 points off the bench weren’t enough for the Jamestown Community College women’s basketball team, which fell to Genesee CC, 71-52, in NJCAA Region 3 Division II action on Wednesday night.

The Cougars held a 19-5 lead after the first quarter, but the Lady Jayhawks (8-12, 1-3) came storming back in the second with a 17-7 run to narrow the deficit to four at halftime.

Hohl and teammate Gabby Iuculano, who finished with 14 points, scored 9 points each in the second half to keep the Cougars at bay, but Genesee, led by Erina Ishiguro’s 21 points, pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Jayhawks 23-11 to seal the victory.

In addition to Ishiguro, the Cougars had four other scorers finish in double-figures, highlighted by Alayah Sweeney, who finished with a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds. Abigail Willis also scored 14 points off the bench, while LisBeth Pineda Polanco and Haley Alvord added 10 points each.

Jesse Zenns finished with 10 points, while Linnea Jimerson led Jamestown with a team-high nine rebounds.

The Lady Jayhawks return to action on Saturday at Erie Community College at 1 p.m.
