Hill Erupts For 39 Points In Dragons’ Win

ELLICOTTVILLE — What a night for Bre Hill.

The Maple Grove senior poured in 39 points — one shy of the school record — to lead the Maple Grove girls to a 78-16 nonleague basketball victory over Ellicottville on Friday night.

Hill added 11 rebounds and four steals; Erin Mansfield and Sam Snow had six and five assists respectively; Courtney Martin grabbed six boards; and Madison Price had five. Anna Tranum was credited with four steals.

The Red Dragons (12-8) led 26-4 after the first quarter and 39-7 at the break. By that point, Hill had 19 points on her way to a career effort. Beth Binner holds the school record of 40 points, which she achieved in 2004.

FREDONIA — Fredonia (11-9, 6-6) fell to Panama (18-2, 10-0), 48-41, in a final nonleague tuneup ahead of the playoffs, 48-41.

Panama was dominant out the gate and jumped to an early lead while Fredonia struggled to find the basket. Natalie Angeletti made it difficult for Fredonia’s Nagely Vazquez in the paint in the first half as she kept her off the scoresheet. Headed into half Panama had a 28-13 lead and when play resumed in the third quarter Panama kept scoring to get the lead to 44-21 after three quarters.

Panama was led by Kylie Schnars with 18 points and Angeletti had 13.

Kazlin Beers had 16 points for Fredonia.
