GENAREO HITS WINNER

ALLEGANY — Southwestern’s Sofia Genareo hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer as the Trojans rallied for a 60-57 Division 1 West victory over Allegany-Limestone.

Southwestern (9-8, 7-4) outscored the Gators (3-13, 2-8), 8-2, in the final 25 seconds of the game. After Allegany-Limestone made a pair of free throws to take a 57-52 lead, Kira Ricker hit a 3-pointer to pull the Trojans within a bucket. After the Gators advanced the ball with a timeout, Genareo picked up a steal and scored at the other end to tie the game at 57. Allegany-Limestone then turned the ball over with 2 seconds remaining by stepping out of bounds.

“With no timeouts, we ran our sideline out-of-bounds play looking for the 3-pointer,” Southwestern head coach Dave Turnbull said. “Rather than run it to its conclusion, we took the first option and Sofia made a play.”

Reece Beaver led the Trojans with 15 points while Gianna Hoose had 13 and Ricker had 10. Genareo chipped in 8 points, four rebounds and four steals while Hoose and Allison Lundmark each had five rebounds.
