SHERMAN — Westfield remained unbeaten. Barely.

Michael Johnson scored 16 points and had eight rebounds, and Andrew Baribeau added 15 points and nine boards to lead a balanced attack as the Wolverines edged Sherman, 64-62, in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West basketball game Friday night.

Westfield (11-0, 7-0) led 31-17 at halftime and 50-34 after three quarters, but the Wildcats (5-4, 4-2) made it very interesting as they outscored the Wolverines, 28-14, in the final period.

“We came out and hit a couple shots early to get the deficit down,” Sherman coach Cory Emory said. “It was a great effort, great comeback and a great game to be part of.”

The Wolverines led, 58-55, with a minute left, but the Wildcats scored a field goal with two seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 63-62. Sherman was forced to foul, Westfield hit one free throw and the Wildcats didn’t get a good shot off at the buzzer.
