Sherman Finds Its Way After Cold First Quarter

CLYMER — Sherman opened the game with a 10-2 first quarter en route to a 41-34 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West victory over Clymer on Monday night.

The teams combined for eight free throws in the opening eight minutes and the Pirates (6-8, 3-6) were 0 for 10 from the field.

Sherman led 30-25 entering the fourth quarter and Clymer never got closer than five points the rest of the way.

Gerald Carris led the Wildcats (8-4, 6-2) with 12 points to go along with eight rebounds while John Swabik had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Alex Dunnewold led the Pirates with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

BROWN HAS CAREER NIGHT

PANAMA — Sophomore Cooper Brown scored a career-high 15 points as Panama breezed past Cassadaga Valley, 88-28, in Division 2 West play.

Cameron Barmore scored 14 of his game-high 29 points in the first quarter. He added 10 rebounds and five assists in the game. Braden Cook added 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists; Gerrit Hinsdale had 13 points and Connor Cooper had 11 points for the Panthers (12-2, 7-2).

The Cougars (2-13, 1-9) were led by Nick Russo’s 6 points.

RED DRAGONS ROLL

Peter Auer led three players in double figures with 17 points as Maple Grove beat Brocton, 81-45, in Division 2 West play.

Auer also had four rebounds and four assists for the Red Dragons (7-5, 5-4). Ayden Reagle chipped in 16 points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds while Darius Jones had 12 points. Drew Kelemen pulled down nine rebounds to go along with six steals and four assists while Riley Auer also had nine rebounds.

Ryan Laurito led the Bulldogs (3-12, 1-8) with 16 points, including two 3-pointers.
