Auer Eclipses 1,000-Point Milestone

ALDEN — Peter Auer scored the 1,000th point of his career with 1:47 remaining in the game as Maple Grove beat Alden, 80-44, in nonleague boys basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Auer finished with 34 points, including four 3-pointers, to go along with nine rebounds, seven steals and four assists.

The senior guard was fouled with 1:47 to go and made the front end of a one-and-one opportunity for the milestone. He then made the second free throw to finish the day with 1,001 points.

Ayden Reagle added 20 points and five rebounds while Darius Jones had 17 points, six assists and five rebounds.

The Red Dragons (5-4, 3-3 CCAA D2 West) led 26-5 after the first quarter and 45-24 at halftime. For the game, they shot 31 of 64 (48.4%) from the field, including 6 of 13 (46.2%) from 3-point range.

Matt Hay led the Bulldogs (1-10, 0-4 ECIC D4) with 15 points.
