Six Red Raiders Named To First Team

Six Jamestown High School football players have earned Class AA first-team all-star recognition and head coach Tom Langworthy has been named the Coach of the Year after the Red Raiders captured the regular-season title.

Headlining the offense are sophomore running back Jaylen Butera and junior wide receiver Elijah Rojas.

Butera rushed for 768 yards and seven touchdowns, and caught 12 passes for 229 yards and four TDs. Defensively, he recorded 66 total tackles, including six for loss; and intercepted three passes, defended 10 more and recovered a fumble.

Rojas, meanwhile, caught 25 passes for 410 yards and four touchdowns.

Jamestown’s first-team defensive selections are junior linebackers Savon VanSickle and Demarri Jones; senior lineman Chase Jones; and junior defensive back Markell Carter.

VanSickle rushed for 808 yards on 149 carries and 15 touchdowns and was credited with 35 tackles, including thee for loss; Demarri Jones ran for 340 yards on 62 carries and four TDs, and had 12 receptions for 238 yards and two scores; Chase Jones had 52 tackles, including 12 for loss; and Carter had 35 tackles, one interception, 11 defended passes and one fumble recovery.

Earning second-team recognition for the Red Raiders are sophomore offensive lineman Drayce Garland, senior kicker Andrew Dix, junior defensive back Cam’ron Mays and junior defensive Carter Eganski.

Honorable-mention choices are senior Ben Schrader, juniors Takye Branch and Simeon Leeper, and freshman Trey Drake.

Langworthy guided the Red Raiders to their first Class AA regular-season title since 2014, the year they won the state crown.

Djae Perry of Bennett and Jake Sharp of Orchard Park have been named the Co-Offensive Players of the Year, while Ryan Culhane of Clarence, Michael Pataky of Orchard Park and Conor Mahony of Lancaster shared the defensive honors.

Jason Masell of Lancaster is the recipient of the sportsmanship award.
