Bodenmiller, Busch Receive Recognition

Already with a Section VI Class C co-championship to their names, Katie Bodenmiller and Angel Busch added to their resumes Monday.

The Westfield/Brocton teammates were two of five local players recognized by the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports on its all-state teams.

Bodenmiller, a senior, was selected to the Class C Third Team after being named the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Central Division Offensive Player of the Year. She scored 15 goals and added 12 assists.

Busch, a junior, was selected to the Class C Fourth Team after being named a CCAA Central Division Second-Team All-Star. She was credited with 229 saves this season while allowing just seven goals against.

Salamanca senior midfielder Aly Hill was also selected to the Class C Fourth Team after being named to the CCAA East Division First Team. Hill scored 14 goals and had five assists for the Warriors.

Silver Creek/Forestville senior forward Jaylah Cossin was selected to the Class C Fifth Team after being named to the CCAA Central Division First Team. Cossin led the Black Knights with 11 goals and added an assist this season.

Ellicottville sophomore forward Mandy Hurlburt was also selected to the Class C Fifth Team after being named a CCAA East Division First-Team All-Star. Hurlburt scored 15 goals and had three assists for the Eagles.

North Collins senior goalkeeper Myah Gabel was selected to the Class D Third Team while senior teammate Rebecca Holmes, a forward, was selected to the Class D Fourth Team.

Claire Hutton of Section II Bethlehem was named the Class AA Player of the Year while Brent Ostrander of Section III Fayetteville-Manlius was named the Class AA Coach of the Year.

Section VI players recognized on Class AA all-state teams included: Lancaster sophomore goalkeeper Shealyn Vanderbosch (First Team); Clarence senior midfielder Olivia Argentieri and Clarence senior defender Maddie West (Second Team); Frontier senior defender Gillian Groth and Clarence senior defender Isabelle Andzel (Third Team); Williamsville North senior forward Lianna Vansice (Fourth Team); Lancaster junior midfielder Raelyn Stranc (Fifth Team); and Frontier senior midfielder Julia Downey and Clarence freshman forward Kailey O’Brien (Sixth Team).

Jordyn Levy of Section XI Half Hollow Hills West was named the Class A Player of the Year while Adrian Gilmore of Section XI Shoreham-Wading River was named the Class A Coach of the Year.

Section VI players recognized on Class A all-state teams included: Hamburg senior midfielder Laura Bogner (First Team); Amherst junior defender Emma Klein (Second Team); Grand Island freshman midfielder Ella Rudney (Third Team); Grand Island senior goalkeeper Lydia Sweeney (Fifth Team); and North Tonawanda senior forward Macey Gioeli and Hamburg junior midfielder Maddie Ingraham (Sixth Team).

Reilly Rich of Section III Central Valley Academy and Emma Bough of Section IV Chenango Forks were named the Class B co-Players of the Year while Jonna Costin of Central Valley Academy and Chris Osterhoudt of Section I Pleasantville were named Class B co-Coaches of the Year.

Section VI players recognized on Class B all-state teams included: Allegany-Limestone senior midfielder Molly McClelland and Allegany-Limestone senior forward Alyssa Spring (First Team); Iroquois senior forward Grace Kulniszewski (Second Team); Akron junior midfielder Kara Seguin (Fourth Team); and Olean junior defender Alexis Gibbons and Iroquois sophomore midfielder Morgan Kulniszewski (Fifth Team).

Chloe DeLyser of Section V Marion, which beat Frewsburg in the Far West Regional, and Brooke Pickett of Section II Stillwater were named Class C co-Players of the Year while Sue Herodes of Section IV Unatego was named the Class C Coach of the Year.

Holland eighth-grader Kierra Kline was named to the Class C Fourth Team.

Leah Basel and Riley Wisheart of Section III Poland were named Class C co-Players of the Year while Tom Basel of Poland was named the Class D Coach of the Year.
