OLEAN –Demarri Jones got Jamestown off to a fast start in the first quarter and Evan Anderson came up big in the closing minutes of the final period to lift the Red Raiders to a 63-59 victory over Tapestry in the opening round of the Olean Tournament on Friday night.

Jones scored 10 of his 20 points in the first period as Jamestown raced out to a 23-11 lead. Tapestry closed the gap to 34-29 at intermission and took a small lead by early in the fourth quarter.

“We responded well,” Red Raiders coach Ben Drake said. “Demarri had six points (in the final eight minutes), Trey (Drake) had five of his 10 and Simeon (Leeper) had five of his 14.”

But it was Anderson who provided the biggest spark when it mattered most.

“He came off the bench and really gave us a shot in the arm, especially defensively,” Drake said. “He dove on the floor a couple times, and he made a free throw that put us up four points with 30 seconds left. It was a 1-and-1, and on the second (attempt) he missed, but Demarri got the rebound and laid it in to put us up six.”

Tapestry scored a bucket with a second remaining for the final four-point margin.

In addition to Jones (10 rebounds), Anderson, Leeper (six rebounds, six assists) and Trey Drake, the Red Raiders, who battled foul trouble throughout, received a strong effort from Jaral Farmer, who finished with 12 rebounds and six assists.

Tariq Eubanks led Tapestry with 26 points and Massai Graham added 14.

Jamestown will meet Olean at 4:15 p.m. today in the championship game.

In the junior varsity tournament, the Red Raiders downed Tapestry, 79-38. Malachi Biles led the way for the winners with 16 points and Dominic Osceola chipped in 13.
