SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Edinboro women’s cross country team had a momentous day at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday.

The Fighting Scots finished 18th as a team, the highest finish among the three Atlantic Region teams, with two runners earning All-American honors.

The 18th place finish is the highest since the 2015 team came in 15th. In addition, Hope Pietrocarlo (Bemus Point/Maple Grove) became Edinboro’s first two-time All-American since Sarah Krolick in 2013.

In addition, Pietrocarlo was joined as an All-American by Stefanie Parsons, who almost crossed the finish line simultaneously with Pietrocarlo, placing 17th. They are the first pair of Fighting Scots to earn All-American accolades since Kacey Gibson and Sarah Krolick in 2012.

Adams State won the national championship with a dominating performance. They finished with 23 points as all five runners earned All-American honors. The Grizzlies had the top three finishers, along with sixth and 11th place.

Grand Valley State took second place with 87 points, with Colorado School of Mines third with 134 points. Western Colorado (192) and University of Mary (233) rounded out the top five.

Edinboro finished with 517 points. A total of 34 teams and 260 runners competed in the race.

The Adams State trio of Stephanie Cotter, Elish Flanagan, and Roisin Flanagan finished one-two-and three. Cotter crossed the finish line of the 6K course at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course at Haggin Oaks with a time of 19:15.5. Elish Flanagan had a time of 19:39.0 and Roisin Flanagan was at 19:39.3.

Pietrocarlo became a two-time All-American after finishing 15th with a time of 20:39.2. The redshirt junior was 27th a year ago. Parsons, meanwhile, came in at 20:39.4 for 17th place. It is the first time the junior has earned All-American honors in cross country after earning the honor in the one-mile run in indoor track & field last spring.

The duo capped an incredible fall. Parsons won both the PSAC and Atlantic region championships, with Pietrocarlo coming in second in both races.

Tori Klimowicz was Edinboro’s third runner across the finish line. The junior came in 135th with a time of 21:58.8. Freshman Megan Wisniewski was 207th with a time of 22:53.7, with sophomore Audrey MacPherson next at 23:07.0

Freshmen Kimberly Goerss and Aleziah Brooks rounded out Edinboro’s contingent of runners. Goerss was 223rd (23:10.3) while Brooks was 231st (23:29.5).
